Strength:

Solid Body and very ergonomic for my hands. Nikon Quality.

Weakness:

No manula ISO setting. No DOF Preview. Only Centre Weighted Metre in manual. One focus selector. Poor Autofocus (hunts). No cable release. Very dark viewing screen.

I purchased this camera because I wanted Nikon quality and acces to their fine optics. At the time there was no F65, which has more features. The F80 came out 4 months after I bought it and had I known I would of waited. The F60 is great if you want to use an SLR as a point and shoot because of all its exposure programs. It seems to handle many situations in auto program OK, although the metre gets confused in some circumstances. I shoot landscape and wildlife and it is no good for that. In manual operation it is extremely limited and I would not purchase it again or recommend it. Not being able to push film or ensure depth of field really limits the work you can do on some subjects. The F65 is far more of a camera and the F80 will grow with you as your skill progresses. Anyone looking for a used mint F60?

Strength:

Solid, robust, big grip, well laid controls, overall value for money

Weakness:

No dof, spot metering
Auto bracketing,
No remote shutter trigger

It was a dificult decision choosing between the Canon 500N and the Nikon F60 which were both priced similarly. The Canon focus slightly faster but the build was very plasticky. I settled for Nikon for its robust feel and past reputation as a reliable performer.
Out in the field, I was not disappointed as the matrix metering handled almost every situation briliantly, except for very heavy backlighting and contrast. Yes, the AF module was a tad slow and searched around a lot but I was not into sports photography! Click on a good Nikon lens and the performance improves. The lens that came with the camera was a cheap plastic one. The AF assist light was extremely bright...I could even use it in dark tunnels and caves to see where I was going! The auto modes were invaluable as a teaching tool and every auto exposure was spot on.
I hardly use the auto programmes modes now and use mostly A and Manual. IN this respect, spot metering and dof are invaluable especially in landscape photography.

Strength:

Good Handling, Bright viewfinder, easy to use and BIG GN built in Flash

Weakness:

No Manual ISO, No Spot Metering

This camera has a good handling for me. Not like F80 or F65 the newest which have a smaller bodies than F 60. Have very good result with built in Flash... very nice. Although No Spot meter and Manual ISO for me it's no problem because it's metering system is so good for some complex situation.

Strength:

Precio razonable.
Muy comoda y facil de usar.
Flash muy potente.

Weakness:

Strength:

Feels good.
Good LCD screen info.
Good as back up camera or entry level.

Weakness:

Goes through batteries a lot on autofocus.
No B setting for time exposures.
For sports turn the autofocus off and rely on manual as too hard to hold on centre focus area for all shots. No lit up LCD screen on top for night shooting.

Lack of ability to sync with later model zoom head nikon speedlights is most frustrating, but GN15 in built flash is powerful. Red eye light too overbearing. Nice camera overall but nikon have adopted some of these suggested changes in the new F65(N65).

Strength:

easy grip, easy to use; good for point and shoot and also for beginners who want ot get serious in photography

Weakness:

only center-weighted light meters (but who cares)

I would just like to say to those who keep o whining about N60’s lack of features: you should have read the camera’s manual and instead bought the other high-end cameras with all the autofocus and manualfocus capabilities available. Why rant about such useless limitations like cable release, no manual ISO setting, no DOF preview, etc when the camera wasn’t built for professional photography in the first place. The abilities and functions are more than what one will pay for the price of the camera. Those who keep on complaining about NIKON N60 must have forgot to read the market target for the camera: it’s designed for family picture taking and vacation pictures or family events and not for creative photography ( although I’m quick to add that there are more than enough uses by the camera under manual mode to flex one’s creative mind). And, as one famous photographer once said, the camera is simply a tool: it is the vision of the photographer that differentiates a snap from a memorable image.

To those displeased owners of NIKON N60…get a grip!!!!!

Strength:

Nice grip (fits to my hand), great body

Weakness:

None so far

Ideal for travel, vacations, family events etc
The Nikon N60 should be used with a high-quality Nikkor lens which handles faster than Cannon (ie Zooming). The automatic operation and make photos is very easy for beginners. I have a 28-200 Nikkor, which gives excellent results. Handled this in all climate zones, from Snow to desert. The results are extremely great. Ideal for people who are interested in classic/photograpy.

Strength:

Inexpensive
Good metering
Good "feel"
Very friendly user interface
Relatively powerfull flash (for an in-built)
Good range in exposure times (1/2000 s - 30 s)

Weakness:

No cable release possible
No manual film speed setting. I just change the coding with tape and a knife...but it would have been nice to have manual setting.
Wont meter with manual lenses...why, Nikon??

This is by no means a high end camera. But for the price you pay you sure get a nice camera. It does lack certain features, some of which I find it hard to believe have been omitted purely to keep the price down. But all in all I am very happy with this black beauty. I would certainly recommend to beginners. But also to those who like to take a lot of pictures...and be a little creative. Just don't expect to get every feature you can dream up.

PS One reviewer said that it doesn't have exposure mode B...this is not true.

Strength:

Good metering, user friendly interface, convenient flash

Weakness:

Auto Focus hunts at times.

After 18 years of enjoying photography with my Pentax ME Super, I decided it was time to try a new fangled auto focus SLR. I was leary of this new technology, so I decided to buy the least expensive, reliable name brand camera to try out just in case I didn't like it. I chose the N60. I was quite amazed at the quality of the pictures it produced even with the "cheap plastic 28-80" that came with the kit. I didn't have one bad picture in the 1st 10 rolls of film. The bad pictures I did take we all my fault. I shot 10 rolls of film on vacation in South Dakota, and they were all perfect. Many people have said some look like postcards. I eventually bought the Nikon 70-300 mm ED D lens to go with it. This is definitly a good camera for a beginner or even an advanced amateur. Don't complain about the lack of features, because you get what you pay for and I didn't pay for all those bells and whistles. After I had confidence in the Auto focus cameras, I upgraded to the N80 which gives you a lot of bang for the buck. I decided to keep the N60 for a second "mud" body that won't break my heart if it gets banged up a little. Bottom line I don't regret for one minute buying the N60. By the way, I also kept the Pentax Me Super, It will probably be around for my Grandkids to use
