This is the best camera that I have had for 15 years. I can't believe the street price is only 1900. The RGB metering is nice and I almost never do exp compensation any more. With F5 I can take snow looks like snow ! Wonderful.
Weakness:
It's heavy. I hate its weight. People might think F5 is the best without any disadvantages. To me, compared to F100, I can say that, the F5 has lots of gap of improvement. What I expected would be the comming F5s in future, which we don't know when. I expect to see the lock AF area, lighter weight or optional verticle grip likes F4, verticle command dial (like MB-15), red AF area Customer Service Excellent Similar Products Used: F100, N90, N70 |

Solid!! It does everything I ask and would do more if I would only ask. I have yet to find a shot the F5 would not deliver.
Weakness:
Are you kidding. The F5 is the best camera I have ever owned. I used Canon for 15 years before switching to Nikon. Nikon glass combined with the F5 body and you have quite possibly the best camera in the world. Similar Products Used: Canon EOS series. Nice little camera...lots and lots of plastic!! |

Solid & fast. Great Meter and dynamic AF really does work.
Weakness:
EI steps should be selectable 1/3, 2/3, & 1 stop increments for both dials. 1/3 stop takes tooooooo long to change settings. I have to rake at the dial forever to go from 1/2000 sec to 1/8 sec. A great camera that needs some reprograming. Nikon are you listening? I have been spoiled by the 1 stop increments of the 8008s and you should offer a revised camera program that allows the command dial increment to be set in a custom function, I would be happy to pay 100 USD for this. It does what I couldn't (AF and matrix meter).
Weakness:
LCDs are rather shortlived and unnecessary (this is not a flimpsy Canon). Great built. A special camera for sport/action/people. It's not a traditional camera but rather a computer with attached lens. Customer Service good Similar Products Used: Edixa, Olympus OM1 and OM2, Leica M3, R3 and R4, Nikon FG, FM2n - |

F5 Camera Body
Strength:
It has a very solid smooth feel unlike the clunky, plasticky feel of the EOS3. It's much quieter when shooting in an environment where silence is needed where the EOS3's clakety noise brings attention to the photographer by unwanted notice that disturbs the priginal composition. The 3D flash metering is superb and the meter is more accurate then any I've shot with in the past.
Weakness:
None so far. The F5 has the ruggedness required of a professional camera with the advanced features still ahead of it's competition. It's ergonomics are like my Canon EOS1N and instills confidence that I can get any shot I choose. The auto focus is right on and the exposure is right there more then 99% of the time. Compare that to 90% for the EOS1N 75% for the EOS3(underexposes consistantly). I know I have a camera that will last for as long as I need it. Customer Service None required yet. Super cool. More camera than I am photographer. Like big pants to grow into. Sophisticated enough to help me make better photos.
Weakness:
Tired arm from holding this behemoth...this was easily overlooked. So far, an altogether incredible purchase. Very fun to use. Could be a bit more of what I've heard than what I've experienced, but this camera seems to be my pinnacle of 35mm SLRs. I expect to always dig it. Customer Service Haven't needed any. Fast auto focusing, RGB 3D matrixing, and a lot of new features.
Weakness:
nope This beast is heavy, but it's worth it. And it's performance is awesome. I bought it for USD 1799 and it's better than the F100. Because the price for F100 is very very close to F5 (if you buy the F100's vertical grip). So why not buy a top of the line, with better performance e.g. the 1005 pixels RGB with 3D metering, and the 8fps of shooting. Customer Service good Similar Products Used: F90X F100 F4 |

The 3D color metering! WOW! Right on the money each time.
Weakness:
The vertical shutter release (on the battery side) sometime my palm hits it and it'll take a shot. But I can lock it I really like my F5. The metering is great and the focus speed in impressive. Customer Service none Similar Products Used: Minolta series |
