Strength:
Not real expensive. Lightweight. Durable. It has a great built in flash. And many features that will enhance your photography expereince.
Weakness:
Internal flash sometimes to bright. Needs ample backround light for indoor pictures. I was interested in buying a camera after seeing many outdoor pictures in National Geographic. So I started shopping around on the internet. As a beginner I didn''t want to buy a camera that would be too much money or too much to work with. So I saw the Canon Rebel on this internet site. It was said to be a great camera for beginners and was quite easy to handle for whatever you might want to use it for. So finally I bought it and have loved it ever since. Strength:
Auto-focus, A, S, M and P modes, auto-bracketting, starts at end of roll and works towards beginning, thus reducing posibility of exposing already exposed images if the back is opened.
Weakness:
No PC terminal Needs ample light to auto-focus Bought this camera on an emergency basis when my main 35mm broke right before a wedding. I have been quite impressed. The feature I use the most is the automatic depth-of-field focus feature. Customer Service Miror kept slipping so Reed''''s quickly repaired it while I waited. Strength:
Light weight, easy to use for the pro or the casual shooter. It''s inexpensive and uses all EOS lenses. It looks fragile but it takes abuse.
Weakness:
One control for aperture and shutter speed. I purchased this camera after reading many reviews online and in several photographic publications. I have used this camera almost daily for over a year now and I have not experienced any problems. This is an excellent camera for anyone who wants to take quality photos without spending too much money. I shoot in Manual, TV or AV modes ,however, the auto pic programs do very well. The camera came equipped with the 28-80 lens but I upgraded to a 28-105 which is much better. The built in flash is good for fill flash outdoors. It does a great job if you are close enough to your subject. I added the 420EX flash to the system which is superb for indoor or outdoor shots. The R2K gets a five star rating from me. Strength:
Ultra compact, very impressive number of features, such as DOF preview, 7 focusing points, fast and farely quiet, cheap (comparatively), and somewhat easy to use.
Weakness:
If you want to get serious, you''ll outgrow this in 2 years. Canon wants you to buy the 28-80 (please dont). No batteries included. An excellent value for your money camera. I have owned this for 6 months and have seen a vast improvement in picture quality. When I say this, i mean because i dont use the idiot modes, but used the "Creative" modes, especially AP Priority for blurred backgrounds, etc. Do me one favor if you buy this camera: Get a good lens!!! If you don''t want to spend alot, that means the 50mm 1.8, or if you must have a zoom, the 24-85mm. Otherwise, get an Elph and be happy (you wont see an improvement using the 28-xxx). Customer Service Canon made it easy for me. I bought it in the US and brought it to Canada, and because they have an international warranty, I dont have to worry. Casual
Strength:
Enviously light weight (important for the traveller, respectable built-in flash, depth of field preview, full range of manual settings and some good program setting balance the casual and more serious uses this camera can be used for.
Weakness:
Kit lens, scary AF assist light - get a Speedlite to save your subject''''s eyes! This is a rare bargain when it come to photography. I tossed up the Nikon F65 or the EOS300 and the EOS simply gives more bang for the buck. You can''''t really go wrong with this unit. I took it all around Vanuatu on my honeymoon and was amazed at some of the shots. The program modes on this camera are great for those that are too busy or lazy to worry about the specifics of photography, but there are enough features to satisfy people who want to get more serious. I have even been happy with the built in flash. I will get the 420EX Speedlite, but the shots I have taken with the built in have been most satisfying. My only criticisms are that the kit lens is a bit soft, and the low light AF assist light from the bult-in flash. For those that don''''t know, when the camera has trouble auto-focussing in low light, the built-in flash will fire a heap of small bursts to light up the subject. This can leave your subject dazed to say the least! Bottom line though, you simply will not find another camera with the features this one can offer at the same price! Customer Service The best kind - NEVER NEEDED!! Similar Products Used: Good old Canon AE-1. Great for the patient photographer and a legendary camera to learn on. |

Casual
Strength:
Light weight (excellent for travel) Excellent level of features for the price (eg. depth-of-field preview)
Weakness:
Only has partial metering - spot metering was sorely missed at times. Midroll rewind consumes the entire film, preventing the film to be reloaded. The standard lenses that come with it are not much. I''ve been interested in photography for some time now, but until I bought this camera it''s the first time that I''ve been able to pursue the interest with any seriousness. Not having a great deal of money to spend, I did a lot of looking around and research before deciding upon the EOS300. I believe that time has been justified as I am more than happy with my selection. I''ve just come back from 8 weeks in Europe and the photos are great! The light weight and small size made it the ideal camera for travel. It proved more than strong enough to put up with the abuse that it unavoidably got and performed perfectly the entire time. I only have a few niggles - 1. it can be annoying to have to remember that all of your photos are going on the film in reverse order because it winds the film out when you load it, but the fact that your photos are safe from accidently opening the case compensate for this. 2. the mid-roll rewind rolls all of the film in, so you cannot load that film up again and advance it to where you left off. My only other piece of advice is to buy a better lens. The 28-90mm lens that came with it isn''t much. Thanks to the advise on this site I bought the 50mm f/1.8 lens and was truly thankful that I did. The quality is excellent (especially for the insanely cheap price) and it enabled me to get shots that I otherwise would have missed. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Cheap, perfect for beginner, light, superb picture quality, 7 point focus, blah, blah, blah - buy it!!
Weakness:
No thumb dial, frames per second What can I say?? This camera rules!! Havn''t really used anything else, but the pics I got from this are amazing - aside from the few where I tried to be too clever. Don''t worry about the plastic lens mount - it''s plenty strong enough for larger lenses and you don''t have to be careful with it - I never look after any of my stuff - most of it breaks - this camera hasn''t and it''s had some pretty rough treatment. A lot of people have complained about poor build quality - RUBBISH!! You can do pretty much anything with this camera - portraits come out really well, as do fast speed action shots. The only 2 areas for improvement are a thumb dial instead of the annoyingly positioned finger dial and faster when it comes to frames per second. Customer Service Dunno yet, the thing won''t break!! Strength:
Light. Inexpensive. DOF preview, fast autofocus... It has everything a begginer would want to.
Weakness:
It could be easier to set aperture in Manual mode if it had an extra dial button. Oh well, lenses could be just like the old FD ones... I just love this camera. She is so light! Even with the battery pack people awe when they hold her for the first time. It is the best companion my A-1 could ever get. I just wish spotmetering could be a little more simple! Oh yeah, and don''t get those standard zoom lenses. The 50mm f/1.8 is cheaper and will deliver great pictures. Customer Service Not needed yet. Similar Products Used: This is my first AF SLR. |

Strength:
Light, easy to use, lots of flexibility
Weakness:
Somewhat plasticy, flimsy feeling flash mechanism Elan 7, N80, 2000 or N65. This was the dilemma. Canons seemed much better, especially if I ever wanted to go toward the 7. Decided on the lightbox approach. Get a very capable camera with a better lens. The 2000 is reliable, makes composition and focusing easy while the 28-105 Canon lens takes reasonably sharp pictures without breaking the bank. Lets face it, I''m not going to blow the shots up to 20x30''s. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Elan 7, A1 |

Affordable Appropriate for beginners Suits all canon EF lenses
Weakness:
Not for amateurs nor professionals I had my EOS 300 for about 6 months with a crappy little lens 25-76mm non-USM lens, since this was my first SLR camera, I don''t think I am qualified to write an unbiased reivew. However this camera is definitely capable of doing everything a beginner wants, it''s very affordable if you buy 2ndhand online (don''t get the new body kits, the lenses suck!!!!). Save your money for a better lens, which is all that matters. I''ve moved to an Elan 7E. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Elan 7E |
