Strength:
Too many to mention. But the body is built strong. I have never had one problem with it!
Weakness:
None that I have found in 20 years. I bought htis camera back in 1987. I use it at least every week, and it was worth every dime I paid for it. It just keeps going on and on and on. I am now finally going to go digital, but i will still be using this one, since the pictures that come out of it are perfect. |

Strength:
Build quality, 4000th sec shutter speed and 250th sec flash sync, auto bracketting
Weakness:
Battery usage, Duracell 245 seems to last the longest lasting battery This body just goes on and on (exceppt the display light), its build quality is very good with its metal body.I have owned thiscamera from new and it has only let me down on one occassion when it developed a problem, six months later it just started working again (strange). I must have put hundreds of films through it and I the metering has always been spot on with a vast range of different speed films, I highly recommend it and I can't see me letting mine go in the near furure. The pro features which differt to other early Eos bodies are its 4000th sec shutter speed and 250th sec flash sync, the off camera flash cord 2 is also compatable with this body, I also found the optional large grip a great accsesory. Weakness:
Apeture button location slow auto focus LCD light goes out after 5 years. Nice package for the age of the design and price. It is slow on the auto focuc but operates very good. The apeture adjustment button is in an incovenient location and requires two hands to change Similar Products Used: EOS 650 |

Strength:
Sturdy, heavy Fast x-sync doesn''''t fog infrared like other EOS cameras top shutter speed 1/4000 cheap
Weakness:
Crappy auto-focus tends to guzzle batteries (this may or may not be a problem. Remove them when not in use) lack of features, if you''''re used to more modern cameras Nice camera for a back-up or infrared body (no IR sensor) to someone already commited to EOS gear. Cheap when found second hand, reliable, sturdy body. Nice fast x-sync. (1/250) Customer Service none Similar Products Used: rebel g AE-1 |

Strength:
Strong metallic body and no inbuilt flash, this camera is better for hard conditions than newer plastic models. Very reliable exposure metering. I liked that the camera have evaluating metering until you use the lock button, then it switches to spot metering. Fast motor comparing to other bodies at the same price.
Weakness:
Bad autofocus, it needs a lot of light to lock on anything and it is slow. Buttons are not as logic as on newer models. I really missed Canons wheel on the backplate, it was very complicated to compensate the exposure when using long lenses. In manual exposure mode the camera don''t tell you how many steps you under/overcompensate from what the camera would have chosen. The loudly sound, every animal nearer than 1000 km will run and hide. Old but a good second or third body, also a camera that can stand an evil owner. Customer Service No need. Tough and reliable with all the basic features you need for general photography. Excellent meter. If you do night photography, the illuminated readout panel is a godsend.
Weakness:
No PC terminal (but then I don't do studio work anyway), AF is dated but I rarely use it anyway. My real beef is with the idiotic tiny screw on cap for the power release outlet which you are guranteed to lose since there is nowhere to put it once you take it off. I lost two and just gave up, which is just as well since 95% of my work is on a tripod - but it is a dumb design feature. Ability to use a power pack would have been nice, but this beast is twelve years old. Considering that this is a first generation AF SLR, it has stood the test of time remarkabely well. The meter is dead on and under normal conditions is actually better than the meter in some of the later Canon and comparable SLRs. This is a great buy as a used camera, a great starter for anyone on a budget and a great backup camera for a more expensive current model. If you own an EOS1 series body or an EOS3, this is an ideal second camera because the contol layout is very similar. Customer Service No complaints. The meter was OE by 1-1.5 stops when I bought it in 88, but got it fixed PDQ under warranty and have not had a problem since. Had it checked out at a Canon free clinic about 7 years ago and got a clean bill of health. Similar Products Used: Nikon, Pentax |

1/250th x-sinc., 30 sec. to 1/4000th top shutter speed, 3fps, size & weight, DOF button, price for a used body in good shape.
Weakness:
Unfortunately it doesn't have a P.C. outlet or a shutter cable/remot capability. Some features on my 540 ez's don't work. I have a little trouble setting the ISO with the small buttons. I also have a bit of trouble with the meter viewer. I like the one inside my 1n body better but, the 1n came out several years later. A great buy. I love it. I know it has a few limitations but, I can do about 85% of my work with it and so I use it as a back up. I had it mounted to my bike the other day as I took self portraits of myself riding along a bike trail. The weight of it kept it from mooving all around when I hit bumps. It is heavier than most cameras of it's size and age but, I like that extra weight. It ballances well with any L glass between 17-200mm. I especially like to use it with my 15mm fisheye lens. The meter is old but d*** good! It also makes for a great remote camera when you don't want to sacrafice something a little more costly. I also use it when I do candid work because it doesn't look too professional. I like the basic features that it comes with. I consider things like autofocus and things like that as extras. I am content with all the extras. I recomend this camera to any beginner!!! I will never sell mine! Customer Service So far, so good. I only had to send in my 300mm and it took 6 weeks because I lforgot to reniew my status as a professional shooter. Otherwise it would have taken about 4 days. Very vesatile, and built to be a workhorse. Will accept most Canon accessories.
Weakness:
Doesn't have the advanced features of the more advanced (more expensive) models I have had this camera for more than 10 years, and have never had a single reason to complain about it. Sure there are features that would be nice to have (mirror lock up among others), but this one offers a lot. It makes a heck of a bargain used, either as an enexpensive way to get into a great system, or as a backup to another model. Customer Service na Similar Products Used: non AF Nikons and Canons |

Very easy to use. Multiple settings.
Weakness:
None It is a good camera to upgrade to, but not necessarily the best to start with. It has a nice display that I have found very helpful. It has many things that are good; depth ajustment, double exposure, and many more. Over all it is a good camera. Similar Products Used: I have used the Canon EOS 650, and it is almost as good. |

Strength:
Very reliable and comfortable to hold. Contains all main features that majority of photographers need to use, although this camera was introduced about 15 years back.
Weakness:
Does not have provision to use additional flash. I am still very happy with this camera. Actually I bought another used one last year. I would like to have Canon-L lens to take full advantage of this camera. Unfortunately, most L-lenses are fast (f/2.8), very expensive and very heavy. The exception is new 70-200 f/4 L lens. I wish Canon whoud have introduced 100-300 f/4 L IS lens. Customer Service Never needed, but Canon has superb musuem in its web site. Further, technicians are quick and very helpful in answering questions. Similar Products Used: Nikon F3 |
