Strength:

Ease of use and reliability.

Weakness:

No external flash snyc connector other than hot shoe. As the cammera ages it tends to eat batteries. Lacks external battery case with ability to use cheaper AA or rechargeable batteries.

Overall it has been a good camera since I purchased it new. I wish it would focus faster in the vertical position. I recently added the Tamron 28 to 105 mm f2.8 lens and this made a big difference in focusing speed. Also the camera is very loud when rewinding and since I use it for hand held B&W shots during weddings this can be a problem. I would only reccomend this camera as a starter or as a backup to the much better EOS 1n.

Customer Service

I had to have the shutter curtain repaired once, although this was not due any problems with the manufacturing, but rather to an accident. It needs to have repairs made to its electronics, as it consumes batteries way too often. I incquired about this repair and it was supposed to be about 100 dollars.

No other autofocus although I use the Nikon FM2 as a mechanical backup. Also shoot mainly in medium format.

Solid Brut, great X-sync speed

Weakness:

Slow AF, No PC socket, EL backlight panel breaks down after a few years and consumes battery power, irespective of power switch on or off. Can be defeated.

Great second body or workhorse. Keep dry in salty conditions.

Strength:

250th X-sync! Very sturdy and reliable camera. Good grip, much better than the plastic lower to mid range SLRs now. A wonderful camera.

Weakness:

Loud! This can be really annoying at weddings. The ABE doesn't stay on, you have to push two buttons in at once in a separate control panel-very annoying for art or cross-process film. Some advanced flash features may not work with this camera

This is probably the closest camera to the T-90 (the greatest camera to be made for less than $1000). It's a great camera generally. All cameras have faults, but I think this cameras strengths out weigh it's weaknesses. Great backup camera, or main. Love this camera.

Strength:

Versatile, comfortable to hold, wide variety of accessories, reliable, good meter, many modes.

Weakness:

Battery Life Poor, heavy, AF lenses slow to focus, noisy during focus, loud motor drive

With its wide shutter range, 30secs - 1/4000 in almost seamless increments, one can use this model in a variety of situations. The larger lenses (non USM) are noisy and slow to focus, poor focus on horizontal lines (advertised), have had since its release with NO maintenance problems. More features than most amatures need. Shot many weddings and events. Is my prime camera, AE-1 is backup. Would recommend except for battery life (remove batt. when not in use).

Strength:

very durable
nice feel in your hands
exposures are very good

Weakness:

slow auto focus

I bought this body in 1988 used and have traveled the world with it. I have never had any problems with any of the components during this time. It has been very durable and a good workhorse. The only reason I may look for a newer body/lense is the lack of fast autofocus which has hindered me a bit every now and then on very fast moving objects. It pairs well with both the older lenses and the newer ultrasonic ones. If you can find one in good shape used.. I would reccomend it.

Strength:

Light meter has never let me down.
Reliability.
Range of features for age is excellent.

Weakness:

Only one vertical AF sensor is limiting by today's standards.
Manual operation is awkward, but is rarely needed because the meter has been so reliable, I've rarely over-ruled it.
A bit heavy, (only an issue for lightweight trips.)

I have loved this camera since I bought it new in about 1988. It still works perfectly, with a very trustworthy lightmeter, and has capabilities which are still respectable in comparison to today's models. An excellent tool. A used 620 would be an excellent buy for an advanced beginner or as a back-up body for anyone committed to Canon EF gear.

Customer Service

Sent a lens for warranty work once, took a while to return, but result was fine.
