Strength:

Solid construction, reliable and easy to operate

Weakness:

Viewfinder too dark with slow zooms; cross AF sensor only works with F2.8 or faster lens

This is a really fine pro camera. It can take a lickin.' It is reliable, good looking, easy and fast to use and feels good in the hand. It's a little quieter than my EOS3 but much louder than my EOS5. Yes, it is a hybrid construction of metal and plastic but it is massive and solid. I can handhold slower shutter speeds better than with my EOS5 due to the greater mass (it doesn't bob up & down as much).

I really like the adjustable dioptic lens and the eyepiece shutter. The T3 cable socket should be moved to the other side of the camera (it bothers my hand).

Any real warts? Well, the viewfinder is a little dim compared with my EOS3 or EOS5. Strap on a slow zoom and it's darn right dark in there. My EF300 F4L lens racks back and forth on it while working great on my EOS3 & 5. That's because its center AF sensor is sensitive to both vertical and horizontal lines with F2.8 or faster lenses. Anything slower and it degrades to an old fashion vertical line sensitive only AF. Whereas the cross senor in the EOS3 is good to F4 and the EOS5 works at F5.6! It also has the older

Of course, if you only use fast optics the dark focusing screen and AF problems don't matter.

I expect the price of new or used 1N to really drop in the next few months with the advent of the EOS1V and EOS3.

Strength:

Ruggedness, reliability, dependability, fits like a glove! Great A.F., and several features that I still haven't used. It works well in the rain and mud. not to mention the snow and in dangerous conditions in the sports arenas. I love the sexy body style and enjoy scratching it all up. I love the weight! I love the fact that it doesn't have a stupid built in flash! I have an A2e that has tape all over that dumb little flash to keep the body more solid. No need to make the body of the 1n more solid. It survives hits from wide recievers on the side lines at Green Bay Packer football games! not to mention all the bad weather that pours on us on the Frozen Tundra. The camera feels great with any L lens from 17-200mm and even better with some real fat glass.

Weakness:

I wish it had a main dial on the vertical grip part of the booster.

I see why Nikon HAD to come out with the F5. Canon makes superior products to Nikon. Nikon has had to play catch up. Nikon users should write a big thank you E-Mail to Canon USA! The 1v kicks dust in the face of the F5 users just as did the 1n to the F4s users! By the way, if you don't like the weight, LIFT WEIGHTS!!!

Strength:

I don't wish to repeat what everyone said but, like the commercial for the energizer bunny says it "it keeps going and going. Well, something like that but you get the picture.

Weakness:

None. well except for one the "Remote Control Socket" which makes the camera kinda hard to hold when the R/C is connected. That's something very little though I don't mind.

Not the very advanced compared to say the EOS-3, F5 or the new 1v. But honestly who really needs all those feature's such as all those C/F arghh! ya, makes life easier but I prefer the hard way it's just more hmmm? I can't come up with the word but it just feels better to do all the work not the camera.

Strength:

Body durability and features that targets the full time professional and semi-professional like me. This camera is really built well. The fit and finish of this camera is excellent and regardless of the materials or combination of materials use to construct the body it is built tough and strong. I had the EOS-1 for 10 years and it never failed. I went to the EOS-1N for the mirror-lock, improved auto bracketing control(1/3 stop, .5 stop and 1 stop), and flash exposure bracketing. Also the 5-point focus selection point offer greater focus control than the single center one. I find the autofocus fast and metering to be great they more than satisfy my expectations.

Weakness:

None.

The EOS-1N is still a great pro camera even with the release of the EOS-1V. At this point in time I do not see the need for me to move to the EOS-1V as the 1N gets the job done each and every time. Now that the price has dropped the EOS-1N is a good pro level camera with features some may never use.

I wa lookign for a nice A2e. Alas it didn't exist so I was left withat the then brand new 3 or a used 1n. I went fot the 1n. I love and have a bunch of canon lenses so that limited me of course. The 1n is a pro level camera. No it won't take beter pics per se but it will last longer theoretically. The 1n has a grater viewfinder image and has been taking great photos with the 540ez. BTW understand that a camera body is just a light box. SPend you money on lenses! I bought the 1n b/c it was a great used deal over the 3 and it will be the last camera I buy for years and years to come.

marvelous, simple camera. Rugged, reliable, no real bells and whistles.
Perfect Camera!!!

Weakness:

None, just a couple idiosyncrosies

My hands have started to shake a bit and I really hated the viewfinder on the G-2. I wanted to change systems, I chose Canon because of the IS lenses. I almost went with Nikon but for me, they did not have the right lens. What I really wanted was an updated EOS A2e. Since Canon did not come out with one, and since the price of the 1n came down a bit with the onslaught of the new 1v, I chose the 1n. I did not want the bells and whistles of the 1v, I wanted a simple, well made camera. Boy did I make the right choice! the 1n, coupled with the 28-135 USM IS lens is unbeatable! By the way, that lens does almost as good as the L-series lens in the Photodo MTF tests.

Customer Service

Very good, not needed with this camera yet, but with others. Customer service was great.

The EOS-1n is a solid built body. It's focusing system accuracy is tops in the industry.

Weakness:

Focusing point selection, spot metering not linked to outer focusing points.

If you want an affordable, bulletproof pro body, this is it. It's not the best at anything, but it is awful good at everything. Day in, day out, does the job with PREDICTABLE results.

Focusing speed is fast. However, when I tried a friend's F-5 and a 300mm AF-s lens I found that I was able to hold the focus of individual soccer players better while they moved erractically on the field.

Weakness:

No vertical focusing sensors
Flash system
No interchageable finders
No manual film rewind
Not as well-built as "old" F-1N or as Nikon's F-5-real-pro cameras are make of metal not plastic

Not as sophisticated nor as well-built as it competitor the Nikon F-5. I disappointed that Canon, maker of the rugged and dependable F-1N would build professional camera out of plastic. Perhaps Canon is begining to realize it's mistake in this regard when I read the specs of the new EOS-1V-more metal less plastic, more long term durability (better shutter), more sophistication (computer software). I'm can't wait to get my hands on one
