PRESS RELEASE: Joby launches Gorillapod® Video, the most adaptable on-the go video tripod
The end to shaky personal video has arrived with the ultimate compact video tripod
San Francisco, CA – September 22, 2010 – Joby, Inc., the world renowned designer of the Gorillapod™ flexible camera tripod, is pleased to announce the arrival of a new video tripod solution at this year’s Photokina tradeshow in Cologne, Germany. Having revolutionized the still photography world with the award-winning Gorillapod line, Joby now aims to reinvent video on-the-go. The Gorillapod Video elevates the quality of moving image capture and capitalizes on the explosive use of personal camcorders and video hosting sites. Now, you can capture the action from the sideline of a soccer match, make the perfect social media video, film your portfolio or memorialize family and friends at weddings and parties on your Flip, Kodak PlaySport or other handheld video recording device.
The Gorillapod Video is designed specifically for mini-camcorders, so you can seamlessly capture video wherever you go. The omni-directional positioning video head allows for easy orientation at any angle, with seamless 360 degree pan and 135 degree tilt. Constructed of anodized aluminum, the lightweight design is engineered for durability and capture on-the-go. The Gorillapod Video’s flexible, wrappable ball-and-socket legs provide stability anywhere, and the super strong magnetic feet allow you to achieve vantage points that were previously impossible. Plus, the quick-release plate makes it easy to go from hands-free to handheld in seconds.
“The power of Gorillapod Video is the ability to drastically improve the quality of the personal camcorder experience,” says Joby CEO Forrest Baringer-Jones. “This device allows people to really step-up the quality of their video without the hassle of transporting something big and bulky. The beauty of the personal video recording movement is the ability to capture amazing moments in everyday life; the Gorillapod Video makes the video actually worth sharing without inciting nausea.”
The Gorillapod Video is designed for most mini and pocket camcorders and point-and-shoot cameras with video capabilities. It supports up to 11.5 ounces, weighs 2.8 ounces and is 7.2 inches high, and has an MSRP of $29.95. US retailers include; amazon.com, B&H Photo and Joby.com.

Joby just posted a video and I’m now getting one. lol
The Joby looks cool but it just doesn’t work very well. If you have a pocket video camera, odds are you want to shoot video on the go. You probably don’t have a flat or stationary object to attach the tripod. Even if you did, the Joby does not pan smoothly. You need to hold the legs down and pan — and even then it’s hard to keep it smooth. Finally, you have a pocket video camera because it fits in your pocket. The Joby Gorillapod video will not fit in your pocket unless you’ve got a very big pocket — or willing to put up with some significant discomfort. To get much steadier shots in all situations, I have a readysteady (readysteadyvideo.com), which stabilizes the camera when you’re shooting handheld video and doubles as a monopod.(And the readysteady really does fit in your pocket)
