Pop-Up Flash Accessories
The pop-up flash on your digital SLR is useful but it doesn’t always make the most flattering photos. There are a couple of worthy pop-up flash accessories that can help you control that light better. The first is called Professor Kobre’s Lightscoop (read the Lightscoop Pro Review). For $35 (MSRP), you get a reflector that attaches to your camera so you can bounce the flash off the ceiling. Bouncing flash is an old-school photographers trick but it’s usually done with hot shoe flashes that have tilting heads. Check out or pro review to learn more and see sample photos.

The second option is the Gary Fong Puffer. We haven’t used the Puffer but the concept is a solid one. It’s a more traditional flash diffuser that softens the light from your pop-up flash to minimize the harsh look you get from direct flash. At just over $20, it’s an excellent value and like the Lightscoop, it will transform the quality of pop-up flash photos.

Happy holidays!
Now, that looks like the PERFECT camera accessory which I had been dreaming about. Reasonably priced too. Thanks very much John for posting this article!!!
This is a great idea John! Now I can just point my wife to this link for ideas while still keeping a tiny little bit of surprise in Christmas.
Man, this is great! I always carry my cleaning cloth in my linty linty pokets
Great list John. A couple of inexpensive ideas that come to mine are a good rocket blower and a hot shoe bubble level. Both very useful and inexpensive.
