I usually don't write reviews, but I figured this was something people would find helpful, I know I was surprised.

I ordered some prints (a fairly large order, over $250 worth of prints) for a gallery show I'm doing this summer. I checked the FedEx website and it indicated my pictures had been delivered that day. When I got home, nothing. I waited a couple more days. Still nothing.

After waiting a couple days, I contacted SmugMug indicating that I had not received my shipment.

Without even a question, the customer service person at SmugMug apologized for the missing delivery, said that my order would immediately be reprocessed, and a replacement set of prints would be shipped out at no cost to me. Of course, the replacement prints arrived, but not before the "missing" prints someone got delivered to my doorstep. So now I had two sets of the same prints.

Feeling guilty about what had happened (even though I knew it wasn't my fault), I contacted SmugMug, explained that I now had two sets of prints, and offered to send one set back to them at my cost. They told me to keep them, and reiterated that it wasn't my fault - "these things happen," they said.

This is a company that really values its customers, and puts the focus on people and not the bottom line. In a world where it seems like companies just want to squeeze the last little bit out of you, or make you jump through all sorts of hoops to get any type of break or refund, SmugMug stands out to me as a business that gets it right. They will have my business for a long, long time.

I've always been impressed with their product, and their customer service is the best!

The most important factor that i considered was being able to password protect my selected galleries. I have a number of family photos that i would like to show only to my family and friends. By providing them with passwords, they are able to view my photos without registering. In contrast, Flickr required registration.

The cost is reasonable. It is definitely not the cheapest, however i feel that it is the best in terms of value for money.

The site is most suitable for those who have a mixture of public and private photos, and would like to control who can view selected photos

The community is not as active as Flickr. However you can still maintain a free account with flickr to take advantage of the community side of it. (Unless you wanted to share more than 200 photos)

Choosing a site to host your photos is not an easy task. I have gone through flickr, photobucket and also surfed over the other sites before finally decided to host my photos in Smugmug.

This is by far the best photo storage website I have seen! I originally had a basic account for my family and have since upgraded to the professional account. This has allowed me to put all of my photos for my clients on SmugMug and allow them to order prints directly from my website. With unlimited photo storage, beautiful prints, amazing customer service (I've had multiple times where they've responded within a couple of hours... even late in the night!!) and easy, simple-to-use web-based interface, it can't get much better! I'm also able to set up private galleries for clients and give them their own guest logins.
