Strength:

-relatively low distortion for a 50mm lens -flare hardly visible

Weakness:

-Slightly noticable loss of sharpness next to corners

It is a working horse. Strongly built its main advantage is the absence of flare (lens hood attached) in consideration of the focal lenght.

Model Reviewed: RZ67 Z50mm f/4.5W

Strength:

incredible perspective,
razor sharp images, sturdy lens, beautiful crisp wide angle images

Weakness:

4.5 aperature
ghastly distortion when tipped up or down
cost

If you love getting close to your subjects, or prefer the wide world, like myself, this is the lens for you. I've done everything from landscapes, portraits, and my favorite for this lens, home interiors. Sharpness and clairty is unparallelled by any other medium format wide angle lens. Get Mamiya, get wide, get the photographs that get noticed!

Weakness:

Not sharp at infinity.

This lens may be sharp close up (for $1639 not a lot to ask ) but I did not find it sharp at infinity. I shoot a lot of landscape work and this is where I need the lens to be sharp, at infinity. I do not do a lot of close up wide angle stuff and I think any wide angle lens (around 25mm in 35) would render the subject sharp. Maybe the newer ULD version has helped cure some of these problems.

Customer Service

Used many times, decent turaround time when parts are in stock.

Strength:

Great color, contrast, sharpness, and wide angle of view. Great for landscapes and group portraits and close up photography.

Weakness:

At high magnification, some loss of sharpness in the corners is seen.

So far I have no complaints for this lens. Once I left it stored with the shutter cocked, and it stuck a few times. After leaving it uncocked for a few minutes it was fine, but may need lubricated eventually.

I have not seen any problems at infinity focus, which I use a lot in landscapes and cityscapes.

Customer Service

not used. But Mamiya reps come to town frequently, and give free inspections.

Strength:

I stand impressed with the quality of this lens. The negitives are sharp at infinity or at close range even in the corners corners when viewed with a 24x loupe. It's my favourite lens for landscapes because of its wide and dramitc coverage range.

Weakness:

Distortion is noticable but it is expected at this focal length.

I give it a full thumbs up.

Customer Service

Never dealt with them directly.
