Model Reviewed: T* Apo-Makro Planar 120mm f4 ED/IF (645)

Strength:

-*THE* sharpest lens I've ever used.
-Focus down to about 4 inches from subject, which can be used for some amazing portraits.
-Uses same 72mm filters as 45,80,140 and 210 lenses.
-Gorgeous bokeh makes for beautiful portraits
-Versatile focal length for people and macro use

Weakness:

-Focus from minimum to maximum takes more than two complete twists of the barrel.
-Hefty
-I'd like AF sometimes
-Sometimes portraits are too sharp
-When at macro distance, lens is as long as a Louisville Slugger!

If you do portraiture in medium format, this is the only lens you need. Not a single complaint aside from the long throw focus. It's easy to focus and bloody sharp.

Model Reviewed: T* Apo-Makro Planar 120mm f4 ED/IF (645)

Strength:

Can focus down to 1:1 all by itself, the sharpest lens that I've seen so far for the lineup. Excellent mechanical integrity, extremely solidly built. 72mm standard filter size for almost every other lens in the lineup.

Weakness:

Lack of AF, can be a bit too sharp for portraiture, a bit heavy to lug around

Very versatile lens, for the quality being, extremely good dollar value. A solidly built, MF macro lens that focuses down to 1:1 with apochromatic quality. A must for all Contax 645 users.

Strength:

Simply the best lens I've ever used on *any* camera. Incredibly sharp and has the classic Zeiss 3-D look. Chromes with this lens are breathtaking, both on the light box and when projected.

Weakness:

none

This lens is one of the main reasons to buy the Contax 645! I have the other lenses from 35mm to 210mm, except the 140mm; all are wonderful, but this is the very best

Strength:

*Sharp! Sharp! Sharp!
*Very saturated colors
*High resolution
*Light weight

Weakness:

The sharpness of this lens amazes me. I have never used a medium tele medium format lens this sharp. The lens has a certain quality, I'm not sure what it is, that gives images a sense of realism. The colors are extremely saturated, but not unnatural(you will love shooting B&W with it too). For those photographers who love close-up photography and shooting portraits, this lens is IT. It handles well due to its design & light weight. A highly recommended lens.
