Sharpness and contrast are excellant

The maximum aperture of F8 makes for a slightly dark ground glass image but it keeps cost and weight down.

I have used this lens for about 18 yrs on both 4x5 and 5x7, though it just barely covers 5x7. With 4x5 coverage is even with very ample image circle. Lens is very sharp with good contrast. It has been my primary "go-to" lens.
