Strength:
The filter looks quality made, in a nice clean package. It it sturdily built and also does a good job of protecting the lens. As for haze absorption, I don't see much difference if I remove the filter.
Weakness:
Flare, lots of it, even if the camera is at various angles from a strong light source, there are purple and blue hexagons dancing in front of my lens. It really is hard to take flare-less pictures on a bright day.
I got a Tiffen UV Haze-1 filter to protect my camera's lens. It was on sale and cheaper than others that I had seen at the time, so I bought it.

Weakness:
Thick ring Flare This is a great filter to protect your lens from dust and dirt. The filter is not multi coated and tends to cause flare. It does the job of protecting the lens, but so does the lens cap. I don't use mine anymore because it's just as easy to take off the lens cap and I get better results with out the filter. Strength:
Good ring. Decent price. Better than no filter when it comes to lens protection.
Weakness:
You can tell it''s there - it reflects and flares noticeably. For most lenses, a good filter with a nice grippy ring, but quite poor when it comes to coatings / reflections. Similar Products Used: Hoya HMC Cuper, Nikon L37 |

Strength:
Priced right.
Weakness:
The aluminum ring sometimes binds, especially on lenses with polycarbonate filter threads or when double stacking aluminum-ringed filters (not generally recommended anyway). Good (not great) filters at great (not just good) prices. I prefer the Tiffen 812 as a warming filter to the usual 81-series because it's a more-pleasing color. The Tiffen Haze-2 is another outstanding filter - it really does cut through haze amazingly well. I may be one of the few people to have had the old TMC multi-coated filters (back when they offered TMC 81A's as well as Haze) and I must say that the multi-coating seems no more fragile to me than the Hoya HMC multi-coating. Customer Service Not needed. Their catalog has a wealth of information, though, as does their website. Similar Products Used: Hoya, Hoya HMC, Hoya S-HMC, Nikon, B+W. A few Heliopans too. |
