Strength:

This Minolta 28mm f2.8lens is quite unique for its appearance. Though it looks very cute and small, it does quite a lot of neat things. Photo quality is outstanding due to the fact that it has an eye like us. Very useful lens for low-light pictures and sharp tact pictures from a strong/rugged body. When I received mine from auction from Ebay, on par with the 50mm/1.7. I loved its look. It worked flawlessly and very fast focusing on my Alpha a200 and a900. Pictures turned out OUTSTANDING!! Recommended. Get it for a good price on EBAY!! I've heard that the Minolta 28mm f/2 is better and more expensive because it's a better quality lens. But I think I'll stay with the f/2.8 for now until I can afford it. Fast and sharp, has retractable lens hood, very compact and dependable for such a cute lens, simple to use, less weight and smaller size lens to fit in bag, and it's a strong lens, It is a full frame also, compatible with all of Sony's current and future Alphas. print stickers | sticker printing | printing services | business printing

Weakness:

Minolta lenses have some magic that others don't. The reds pop on film or digitally. This lens is no exception. It is a zoom so probably not for the perfectionist with a `10x loop but darn nice. With so many cell phones in the $1000 range out there with their super duper cameras that do no better than the old brownie instamatic I carried in Vietnam (120 film), using a real camera to take pictures is a pleasure. This lens is excellent and is an excellent value. The color makes all the difference.

When I bought this lens with the S-1 body, I didn't know much about photography and what to look for in equipment. This lens was horrible, definately not worth the price I paid($130). I wouldn't recommend buying this lens with the S-1; I would go with the 22-80, because it has manual focus, although I don't know much more about it. Bottom line, read the book on photogaphy before spending a lot of money on SLR equipment.
