Strength:
Excellent sharpness and speed of focusing
Weakness:
None Terrific lens..use their whole line from 300 F2.8 ATX to the 17mm ATX in my daily work. The color of the lenses is very satisfying, not too 'hot' or tweaked and not too flat in contrast. Love them. Customer Service Tokina has great service..ask for John in repairs out in California...a real pro. Similar Products Used: Minolta AF 28-70 f2.8 |

Strength:
The lens is a heavy well constructed professional lens that has survived two gruelling years in a journalists kit bag being subjected to all possible conditions and situations. Flare and distortion, though evident, is kept to a minimum. Lens continues to function after a rebuild brought on by a four foot arcing fall that bent the lens barrels and totalled the front element. (no, it did not "break in half".)I would recomend the lens to the patient and poor amongst us that work and need specific types of gear.
Weakness:
Abhorent customer service at Tokina. The process is long, painfull and costs a mint in shipping. Lens is impossible to focus manually with any accuity under duress. The image doesn't snap into focus as in other examples of this type of lens. Canon's 17-35 is simply a better lens. Buy it if you need a constant f-stop wide angle zoom and can't afford a lens made by the same maker as your camera. Forget about ever sending it back to Tokina for work. Chuck it and buy another Similar Products Used: Nikon 20-35 |

Weakness:
distortion i was delighted when i first recieved the pictures which are aboutnight sence.the images are extremely sharp and contrasty. when a play with the lens with my f80 that night , i noticed the distortion in the sides are quite obvious, even in the long end (20-35) when compare with the 28-105. which made me disappionted because intially i want to use it in group potraits. oops. Focus Speed The bottom line is that this is an excellent lens, comparable in performance to any of the standard Nikon lenses. I wanted to purchase the Nikon 17-35, f/2.8, however, I couldn't justify paying over 2 times the price for the slight improvement in performance between the two lenses. I literally used the difference to purchase another pro-caliber lens, the Tokina 28-70, f/2.6-2.8 ATX Pro II. While I have only been using the lens for a couple of months, I have been extremely pleased with the image quality it produces. In fact, I am extremely satisfied with both purchases. I own the Nikon 35-70, f/2.8D and am a strong believer in Nikon quality. However, I shoot almost exclusively with either my F100 or F5, and have not experienced a detectable drop off in picture quality when using the Tokina Pro-line lenses. A word of advice to everyone deciding on standard versus third-party zoom lens manufacturers -- the Tokina Pro-line provides the optimal blend of value, perfomance and durability. If cost is not an issue and you make your living as a photographer, you might want to go with the standard manufacturer. In most cases the difference is not going to be meaningful, nor will it be measurable to any degree. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Sigma 17-35, f/2.8-4 EX |

Too Early to tell Just purchased the lens and from what I have seen it has great sharpness and no noticable flaring. Large, 77mm filter size, good for me, but can be expensive in the long run. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Nikon |
