Tamron AF28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical 35mm Zoom

Tamron AF28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

A standard zoom lens from a wide 28mm to a medium telephoto range of 80mm. The use of aspherical elements in the front group reduces the number of elements required, and the use of strong engineering plastic in the barrel makes the body a light 237g. Consequently, it is easy to carry.

  • Aperture range: f/3.5-22
  • Min focus: 27.5in. (0.7m)
  • Available for Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax AF mount

    Strength:

Great spur of the moment lens. Produces those pictures you can place in a cheap frame and keep them on end tables. Compact size allows for easy protability. METAL LENS MOUNT.

    Weakness:

    Sharpness, color reproduction, flare

THis lens is an OK lens for caual everyday shooting. While on vacation I was taking some lankscape pics with the lens at about 50mm, midway between the film roll I pulled out the $20 pawnshop Sakar 70/200 to get a different view. I figured I had already captured the good stuff with the 28/80 Tamron. When the prints came in I was suprised and disapointed. The Sakar produced crisp sharp prints with great color, the Tamron failed to match the color captured by the sakar and the looper revieled a lack of sharpness compared to the Sakar. The lens did come in handy when the moments required quick zooming in and out and fast auto focusing. It helped capture those candid shots you never get with a manual focus (unless you stock someone without them knowing).

    Strength:

Great color and contrast, very sharp. Great price.

    Weakness:

Not a very rugged lens, zoom isn't too smooth, flares a little.

I bought this lens in a package along with a pentax ZX-30. I have shot 3 rolls of film with it and almost all pictures had great color and sharpness, the few bad ones were user error. It is a great starter lens because of its quality and versatility. Best of all the lens alone is only 80 bucks at Samy's Camera and to make it even better is that it comes with a 20 dollar Tamron rebate making it only $60!!!

    Strength:

Great Price, Quick AF, easy manual focus, accepts up to 4 filters in a row w/o round corners at the print(at 80mm). Star shape results on reflective surfaces, sun and ligths after overexposing, very nice at nigth shots

    Weakness:

The body needs cleaning almost after a field trip, the dust gets inside easy.

I found this a good lens and my friends found it very interesting. I would recomend this lens for beginners like me.

    Strength:

Decent for the price when new.
    Surprisingly sharp and contrasty for
    a `piece of plastic junk'.
    Comes with a lens hood

    Weakness:

Barrel somewhat flimsy (standard for the price).
Sucks in a lot of dust.
    Poor flare controll.

Needs 200 or 400 speed film because of slow maximum aperture.

In Pentax mount no aperture klick between 3.5 and 5.6.

Even on 4*6 prints the quality loss in comparison to the prime lenses is apparent.

Not bad for the price. Stoped down you can get some surprisingly good results.
However for the price you could get a 50/1.7 as well, which is in a completely different league, which becomes aparent on small 4*6 prints.

Barrel is not well sealed, therefore it sucks in a lot of dirt within a short time.

I essentially suspended this one from regular use.

    Strength:

A very good value for money. Has a sharp picture rendering capability throughout zoom range. Smmoth zoom and will work very good with very careful handling.

    Weakness:

Not very rugged. Requires careful handling unlike other lenses made for Pro use.

A good value for money. Excellent picture quality. Has not given me any trouble. But requires very careful handling. Forget it if you intend throwing your gear around.

    Strength:

Inexpensive, light weight, fairly sharp thruout zoom range.

    Weakness:

Zoom control has a 'bump' around 35mm setting. Not too rugged-plastic barrell...but that's how they keep the weight down!

Good for a general purpose zoom.

VERY sharp, especially for it's price range. I like the rubberized finish.

    Weakness:

This lens is EXCEPTIONAL. It is VERY sharp at all focal legnths. I have never heard that the elements are part plastic - I don't think that is true. If the elements ARE part plastic, it is some amazing plastic! Keep in mind that you are NOT SUPPOSED to DROP lenses!
