Strength:
-Light -Can handle most shooting situations -Work fine in all Af meters will with Nikon
Weakness:
-Sharp it is not I have used this on an N-80 for over a year. It is very convenient and acceptable pictures can be made in the 135m range. The more I use it the more I hate it. It just is not sharp enough for me. A casual user will be happy but I can't stand it any more. Nikon users should get the 70-300mm ed for a few bucks more. Strength:
Nice 7:1 zoom ratio with fast changing of focal length to suit fast-changing, diverse action.
Weakness:
1) Not Suitable for nighttime use, as it's too slow for autofocus; 2) Not Suitable for manual focus use, as the focus ring is very thin and easy to miss; 3) Not Very Suitable for digital cameras, as the smaller CCD size of a D1x or S1 Pro causes image detail loss. Overall, a flexible lens for the casual 35mm film photogtrapher: I use it in the pit lane at *daytime* Indy Racing League and NASCAR Craftsman Truck races, as I need to zoom in to catch a wreck several hundred yards away, then quickly zoom out to catch action just a few yards away. BUT: This lens has its' faults... See below. Customer Service The reps were VERY rude at the 2002 PhotoPlus Expo in NYC Similar Products Used: Two of the 28-200 plus a similar Tamron 28-300. |

Very sharp, fast if you comapre to other hyperzooms and compact. Customer Service Dont know yet. Strength:
Fast, Sharp, Veratile, & Compact.
Weakness:
Wieght, but the zoom compensates for it. The Tamron 28-200 Super II Macro is the most veratile compact lense you can buy. It is very for any distance, or situation. I use it underwater, and on land for travel. You can''t beat this one! Similar Products Used: Minolta 50mm, Pentax 80-200. |

Strength:
Light (compared to two lenses), flexible, good quality. The best thing ever made for backpacking and hiking. Excellent color. Great value.
Weakness:
Noticable vignetting at 28mm, slow(!) f3.8 (f5.6 at 200mm), contrast weak at higher telephoto ranges. I do mostly landscape, nature and wilderness photography (see www.sierranevadaphotos.com for my work). And I''m lazy. When I''m hiking or backpacking, I don''t like to have to carry a lot of weight or be constantly changing lenses. So I bought this with my Minolta 500si 3 years ago. Overall, this has been an excellent lens and I use it as my primary. Sharpness is acceptable for my work, but not excellent. It''s a slow lens, so not good in low light without a tripod. It hunts in AF mode, but I think that that is the camera''s fault more than anything - I turn AF off! Noticable vignetting at 28mm. But it''s light (considering you''d be carrying at least two lenses), flexible and just all around great if you only want to carry one lens. Colors and contrast are excellent in my experience though contrast drops noticably at 200mm. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Good built, acceptable AF speed, great range.
Weakness:
sometime flare, noticeable pincushion distortion at 80-100mm, some cases the foreground objects were a bit underexposed I''ve had the lens for over three months and I agree with others that have posted here. It is an good lens compliment to my other Canon lens. It is worth the money. I take a lot of nature pictures and this lens produces excellent results. Even in low lighting situations, this lens does well. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Canon EF 28-105 USM, EF 50, EF 70-210, EF 80-300 USM. |

Strength:
Great length, 28-200mm. Light and responsive. Good filter size.
Weakness:
Flares easily. Vignettes at 28. A little soft at some focal lenghts. I have used this lens for nearly a year now. For the money I have been very pleased with this product. While it is obviously not as sharp as a prime lens or some of Minolta''s fine line of high end lenses, I was aware of this when I purchased it. What I was intrested in, was a carry around-user friendly-general lens that would do a lot without expecting it to do every thing. This lens delivered. When I read the complaints about this lens, I wonder what the expectations were around its supposed performance. For what it is, this lens is really good. If you want the best quality, then buy a top of the line lens, and do not expect this one to compete in all catagories. I Have found it fine for color, black and white prints and for infra red black and white prints. For one lens in your bag this is great. Customer Service Not too helpful with other lens problem. see above First of all there is no such thing as a perfect do everything lens. Anyone buying a super zoom thinking that this lens will do it all is a fool shortly departed of his or her money. That being said; this compact multi talented lens is excellent for the job it was created and does a wonderful job mated on my Nikon F-100 I am the Outdoor Editor for a Florida based outdoors magazine. I take pictures of events, models, and other activities on a monthly basis. As well as covering events for hire. See www.southwindphoto.com Sure, it is not a perfect portrait lens like the Nikon 105 AI 2.5 Unquestionably, it is not a fast prime lens like the Nikon 1.4 50mm. Nevertheless, when you need one lens to take on a boat offshore, or hiking into the backcountry this compact lens has what it takes to get the job done. Complete your package with an SB28 and you have everything anyone could ever need for Photojournalism Customer Service none needed Similar Products Used: Nikon 35-105 |

Strength:
zoom range, size, pretty decent speed, great zoom lock
Weakness:
Poor sharpness. at the end of the day the quality of the pictures that I could produce with this lens were unacceptable I thought that I was getting good quality sharp zoom lens. what I got was a lens with a great zoom range and poor poor sharpness. I could not bear the lack of sharpness and had to trade it in. I lost more than 50% of what I paid for it. I was very disappointed with the person that sold me this lens.
