Strength:

I bought this lens for my Sony Alpha 77 camera to replace an older 18-105 mm lens as my standard "shoot all travel lens" and I was not disappointed at all. The focus is spot on and there is very little image distortion when shooting wide angle photos in horizontal position. In vertical shooting position, shooting below about 30 mm produces some distortion and a little dark blurring at the corners of the shot, but that is my only negative observation. I read one review prior to purchasing this lens regarding the internal focus motor noise, which I did not find obtrusive or unacceptable. The little bit of noise is a good trade off for the fast and accurate focusing with this lens. I guess it could be a problem if you are trying to shoot a lot of video with this lens, but otherwise it should be no issue. I used my Alpha camera with this lens to shoot a wedding while I was away in Thailand and the camera noise/lens noise was hardly noticeable during the ceremony. I would definitely recommend this lens for both the amateur or the professional.
