    Strength:

An excellent lens for the price. I don't agree with other reviewers about the optics - though they are not perfect, they are better than most - certainly better than other zooms - and what about that price? Also, it's an extremely light lens for the focal spread, and advantage in outdoor photography. As far as the controls? They're there, and they do the job, which is all I've ever asked.

    Weakness:

It's slow, but is it not a zoom? Buy faster film. It's plastic, but I've never found that to be a problem, even though I'm quite hard on my equipment. I think some people consider their cameras to be tougher than they are meant to be. Those People, this is a precision instrument. If you drop it, it will fall, and it will probably break, just like other photo equipment. Don't drop it. Cause and effect.

An excellent all-round lens. I used it on a three month hiking trip in California, and turned out some excellent, fully-publishable shots. If you want optical quality better than this, you will have to go to prime lenses, or one of the two fixed-stop Pentax zooms. (Which I do when I want superbly clear or low-light shots.) Yes, it's plastic, and that's why it's light, and that's why I have a Pentax in the first place. I've had it for years, and have brought it with me to places I never would have brought some tank of a Nikkor. I am buying other prime lenses, but I am going to keep this one as an all-rounder. A better travel lens optically than anything with a bigger focal spread. As far as the plastic construction goes, DON'T DROP IT, AND IT WON'T BREAK. No kidding - this works.

    Strength:

Very cheap lens. Supplied with the body. No lens flare.

    Weakness:

Poor plastic construction with a wobbly front element. Pictures are not sharp even with a tripod and cable release.

Cheap and convenient lens. However, if you care about how your pictures come out I can't recommend this lens.
