Slow This is an amazing lens for <$179. Although it's defintly built as an entry level lens for the price it can't be beat. I like the zoom range and it's sharp up to 200mm. On the downside I was shooting outside in bright sunlight with a polarizer on 200ASA and was getting true readings of f5.6 or slower (I pushed the film a stop to shoot at higher shutter speeds). Auto focus seemed comparable to other Nikon AF lenes. Customer Service Never used Similar Products Used: 75-300 Nikon |

Cheap feeling For $109 this is a nifty product. Light and compact, this lens travels well. Att this price point the images produced are very good. Decent sharpness and contrast. Cheap feel notwithstanding, this is a good entry level product for the occasional sports/nature shooter. Smallish size and heft make carrying the lens around easy. Not suggested for the heavy user. Overall a great buy for the price. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Many Canon lenses |

Strength:
It is light weight and in expensive with a great range.
Weakness:
It is slow to focus sometimes with the auto-focusing. You have to play with it to focus some times. Great lens for the price. |

Lightweight, Great Pictures! Perfect match for the N80. Outstanding price compared to the D series.
Weakness:
None for me It is a perfect match for my 28-105 1:3.5-4.5 D lens. With the same apperture speeds, my film speed stays Kodachrome 200. Handheld pictures have been suprisingly superb! The G stays on my camera with the D being backup. I can actually say I now have no reason to purchase another lens; this combo is all that I need. I wear glasses and am happy with the auto focus speed and have more keeper pictures than I had expected. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
- Incredibly inexpensive
Weakness:
- Plastic, plastic, and more plastic Despite all of its shortcomings (see above), it's still less than half the cost of the (practically identical) ED counterpart, both of which are derived from the Tamron. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Nikkor 70-210 f/4-5.6 D AF |

no AI coupling, but shouldn't be This is a preliminary review as I wait for the film. I am amazed. This lens is very lightweight and has very decent Nikon glass for an incredible price. Even in the viewfinder, images are very clear and the out of focus areas are smooooooth. Not having an aperature ring is not the end of the world because all the modern bodies ask you to use the dials anyway. I believe that this lens competes with the Canon 55-200 and various 3rd party lenses. In this field, this lens stands very well and it is a Nikon! which means image quality is great. I am one to believe that every lens is different and has different characteristics, some better than others for a certain purpose. For Nikon to do this unheard of- This is a lens that every Nikon AF users needs, but probably would use a whole lot- thus the very low price is justifyable. The moment I put on the lens, I didn't know what the possibilities there were with a 70-300. Street Photography from a car is great! Some purists may say that these G lenses tarnish the reputation of the F mount. The mount is the same, but this expands the lens line farther so that more users can pay for what they need. You can still find the 75-240 D which has the aperature ring for about the same price. This does not affect the used market either because those lenses have a proven reputation for results. ALso, many Nikonians have been purchasing third party 70-300 models for low prices for ages- it is about time that Nikon has had something for that market (people want to buy Nikon because of the quality). For sure, this lens will not survive professional use with its composite lens mount. I don't know the percentages of pro users vs. ethusiasts and consumers, but am sure more people will use this lens. I have grounded expectations for this lens and plan to treat it as my compact travel kit. Similar Products Used: None |
