Konica Minolta AF 17-35mm f/3.5 G Maxxum 35mm Zoom

Konica Minolta AF 17-35mm f/3.5 G Maxxum 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

A large aperture, super wide angle zoom lens with very high image quality. The Minolta 17-35mm f/3.5 G is constructed using aspherical elements and AD glass to ensure highly descriptive performance. These optics minimize distortion at the widest angle of view 17mm, and they produce beautiful images at the largest aperture. The super wide angle of view, ideal for capturing the extensiveness of a scene, is suited for landscape and architecture/interior photography.

Strength:

Cheap wide for full frame. Quick focus speed.

Weakness:

Soft in corners unless stopped down

As with any wides softness in the corners is a big issue and an imporant feature to a landscape photographer. This lens is a nice cheap alternative when shooting full frame. Results are nice if stopped down quiet a bit. If you stretch exposure, HDRs, push and pull exposure your are going to get chromatic aberration that can sometimes be corrected for with Lightroom but sometimes not. If you take the time to learn how to use this lens and stay within it's limitations you can really get some nice sharp wide landscape pictures with it. I also like to use it for fun fill shots when doing family type stuff as well. To mix it up some. Distortion is also an issue with wides but it's nice and not overdone with this lens. All in all I love owning the lens. I would recommend it.

Strength:

Sharp, solid build, little distortion

Weakness:

very EXPENSIVE, only f/3.5, dark corner sometimes.

This lens is very sharp!!! I didn't relize how sharp this lens was until I got the first picture. Wow! I really enjoyed using this lens. The super wide angel gives you a very different perspective. It is an expensive lens though.

Strength:

Range 17-35mm, equal quality over the whole range. Metal housing, nice weight, focus hold button. Tack sharp.

Weakness:

Plastic lens hood which can turn when mounted then causing shielding in the corners.
Slight lightfall in corners (17mm)

Great lens which will give me many years of pleasure.

Customer Service

can't judge that

Strength:

a fantastic wide zoom lens free from any distortion !

Weakness:

a heavy, voluminous and expensive lens for those who don't care a distortion

There are a lot of wide zoom lenses in the market however, almost all products but this shows any distortion more or less with which one hesitates to replace his prime lenses with "a" zoom lens. Here is an answer ! If you are indoor and architecture photographer, I'm sure that this will be an indispensable companion to you (as is really expensive). I'll be happy in case it comes more slender (down to 72mm filter).
