Image Quality is fantastic, AF Speed, build.

Af is alittle noisy. No drop-in filter (front filter is 112mm)

I have used this for baseball and other outdoor sports. this is a great lens. Focus is almost USM speed. I own other canon USM L lenses and there focus and this is almost the same. Excellent color, contrast, resolution and bokah. If you can get this f2.8 lens it is worth it.

Had this lens for a couple of months now. Got it and the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 2x teleconvertor at the same time. One thing that I must state... most of these lenses DO NOT AUTOFOCUS PROPERLY with the EOS 3/1v without a chip upgrade. This costs $100 in the US and £150 in the UK. But this is small change for the lens you'll end up with. Mine was sent away and chipped for me (EOS 3 user) by the guy I bought the lens from on Ebay. In its own right this is a superb lens. Very well built - easily an equal for, if not superior to, my canon 70-200 L IS. Autofocus is very quiet for a non-USM/HSM lens, and very responsive in all but very low light (with the modern AF circuitry this is). Sharpness is simply superb. This is the sharpest lens I own. Whilst it would no doubt prove less sharp the Canons own 300 2.8 L I have to say that it is plenty sharp enough for any real world scenario. Colour reproduction is excellent. Utterly neutral tones with plenty of shadow detail and BUCKETS of highlight detail. Wide open at F2.8 the is a small but noticeable ampount of vignetting. This is still, just, evident at F4, and is gone by F5.6. Even wide open it would only be detrimental to shots where there is an expanse of pale colour running rom corner to centre that is part of the main detail, e.g. sky. For my wildlife work this isn't a problem. All in all, a superb lens for the money. Not perfect but much more than adequate. I couldn't recomend it highly enough. With the matched 2x Kenko (Tokina, Hoya, and Kenko are the same company, THK) teleconvertor (Teleplus Pro 300) things get better. On my Eos 3 AF remains fast and accurate with no hunting except in really low light. Image sharpness remains tack sharp (not a label I throw around liberally, none of my other lenses, including Canon L, receive it). Two points really stand out - 1) The vignetting wide open DISSAPEARS (due to the cropping of the central image portion). 2) The camera still registers the lens as a 2.8. Effectively it isn't of course but this registry means that on the EOS 3/1v the central AF CROSS SENSOR (the most accurate type) remains active, so AF is still critically sharp - useful with such a small depth of field wide open! Exposure isn't affected as TTL sorts everything out nicely. Please note - Canon extenders will not work with this lens without the use of a small extension tube that will SEVERELY limit your distance focusing (20m or so with 20mm tube). Anyway, try one, I asume the new one is every bit as good but these are the bargain of the decade.

Very crisp at even 2.8...excellent at 5.6 ..got better images than 70-200 f 2.8 Nikon..The color rendition is perfect..and very rugged..AF speed is good enough to track flying birds..Excellent street price....costed me 1900 USD...none matched..

Bit heavy..Couldnt get used to MF-AF interchange yet..But I believe thats just a time event..

very cheap...for a lens this quality..A must buy for people not being able to consider Nikon f 2.8's...I Would buy the first Tokina 400 f 2.8 or 600 f 4.0 if they manufacture one this quality and price range..

Awesome lense and excellent value. Auto focusing is fast with my f100s. The quality of the lense is outstanding. This is my favorite lense to use and all I can say is it an "Awesome lense and excellent value". I could not afford a Nikon 300mm f2.8 and was looking at either a 300mm f4 or 80-400 vr lense. But I really wanted a 300mm f2.8 so I decided on the Tokina because of build quality and pricing.
