Strength:
very sharp at 5.6 to f 11 great contrast and colours the view build quality is the best for a tamron except the ld 400mm sp f4 and 80-200mm ld sp 2.8
Weakness:
the flare - the front element is so huge that flare is a huge problem-stopping down wont help however a flare buster will if you dont mind cropping it out of the final pic. however as the sun reaches the horizon this lens excells. lots of distortion - in the effort to stop it fisheyeing there is a lot of stretching. i would prefer less stretching and a little curves its no pentax fa 24mm f2.0 in contrast and colour. crappy hood for ultra wide it is the only way to go? for the price i paid it was awesome deal. sharper at f8-f11 than a pentax 20mm 2.8 which suprised me as the other is a great lens. softer at f 2.8 - f5.6 kills the sigma for performance athough photodo disagrees. i will give it 5 stars for value as i got it less than half price. three for quality Similar Products Used: 17mm tamron sp, 20mm pentax, 24mm pentax, 16mm zenitar, 17-28mm pentax fisheye zoom, sigma 14mm 2.8 |

When you need a lens this wide, there is simply no other substitute! Excellent build quality with an integrated metal hood. No problems with AF despite the great DOF available- the lens just snaps into focus
Weakness:
One major one: lens flare! Be very careful of outdoor shots: you will almost certainly see bright blobs of blue opposite any strong source of light. For indoors shots, similar care should be exercised though here flare control is not so critical. Oh yeah, that slip on cover is a pain- just an invitation for fingerprints on that huge front element. And I dont'' believe that Tamron is unable to give us a proper metal cover- I have a Zuiko 24mm Shift lens with a front element every bit as big and Olympus has an excellent metal lens hood- Come on Tamron A Great lens in a field where very few real competitors exist; I do a lot of Interior Photography and really needed a lens that would let me capture at least 2 walls intoto. If your thing is interiors, this is the lens for you. A bit on the bulky side but then thats a small price for that vast angle of view. The lens snaps into focus on my Pentax Z1-p and I''ve been able to enlarge stuff up to 12"x15" taken at f5.6 and above without any problems. Careful of that focussing; any slight shift in focus won''t show up in the viewfinder due to the great DOF but will be painfully clear in any enlargements! Umm.. you''ll have to make sure that the body you mount this lens on is not one of the compact models- I tried using this lens on a tiny Pentax MZ5: not a good combination Customer Service Very good service from JJ Mehta, Tamron''s representatives in India Similar Products Used: Too many lens to list here- mostly Pentax and Olympus products with some Tamron/Sigma/Tokinas as well |

Strength:
It takes great photos and its built to withstand my use.
Weakness:
Wish it had a better filter set-up or an adapter, do not like the rear mount. Great lens. Would have given it a five, except for the lack of a decent filter mount. Customer Service Have not had a need yet. Similar Products Used: several Nikon wide angle lens. |

Strength:
Optically, this is a corking lens. Build quality is top notch, with an attached metal lens hood and barrel. Handling is excellent, with a clutch mechanism similar to Tokina's, only better. You don't have to return the focus ring to the same position!
Weakness:
Huge, bulbous front element which really can't be helped. It's impossibly to use filters on this lens, easy to get fingers all over the front element, and forces a leather slip on cover as a lens cap. Corking lens, and it is a 14mm... haven't tried the Sigma 14/2.8 EX yet, but I'm sold. Similar Products Used: Sigma 14/3.5 -- Much worse light fall off. Very plasticky in comparison. |
