Strength:
Excellent image quality at full aperture. Balances well with camera (FM2) and can deliver sharp pictures even hand-held.
Weakness:
Its mechanical durability has not been laid out for professional (ab)use. Lens should be handled not too roughly. It might hovever be advantageous that the aperture ring wears out instead of the camera lensmount... These lenses are available now used at reasonable prices. The apochromatic design enables to use the full aperture. The lens proved recently perfectly suitable for outdoor stage photography on 1600 ASA film (f/4, 1/60 s) with only a few blurred images. Customer Service Good - lens had loosened aperture ring and was fixed by Sigma service representative. Similar Products Used: Sigma 5,6 400 mm APO Macro |

Weakness:
AF is very slow. Hunts alot in low light. I am useing manual focus 80% of the time. This is a hard-to-find lens. Sigma didn't make many of these. It's a shame because it is a good lens, with optical results like original lenses and much cheaper. Customer Service None, but this is a discontinued lens so part may be difficult. Strength:
Handles nice, well built, very good image quality
Weakness:
AF is not that slow for a non HSM lens, BUT it tends to hunt a lot. Sigma bring on a Nikon mount HSM please! Good lens for a good price, but the Nikon mount version needs an HSM. Customer Service Unused Similar Products Used: None |

300mm f/4 APO Tele Macro
Strength:
Wonderful handling, better than Nikon 300 AF f/4. Excellent results for sharpness and contrast even wide open. Well suited for colour and B&W too. Smooth and lovely manual focusing ring.
Weakness:
AF is slow, but again, no worse than Nikon sample. I think Canon HSM lens should be a beautiful optic overall. I think this is a great lens. Owning the Nikon too I can't detect differences among the two, except that Sigma, for my tastes, has a better feel and is a little more compact. Sigma is cheaper too, but value decrease a lot if you want to re-sell it someday. A very good choice overall. Customer Service Never needed. Similar Products Used: Nikon 300 AF f/4 |

Weakness:
A bit on the warm side and AF is a bit slow with the PK-AF mount - common problem of this mount Overall recommed as a low cost alternative to factory prime lenses of similar mounts Customer Service Excellant - fell off tripod and they fixed w/o a hitch for a reasoable cost Similar Products Used: Pentax 135 and various other focal lengths as comparison |

Strength:
Fantastic optics
Weakness:
AF needs to be a little quicker and decisive An optically very good lense...and lets face it, the optics are the most important factor when considering buying a lense. Okay, so the AF is a little slow sometimes, but the images I've captured using this lense have been so good that I can forgive that one point!
