Strength:
Amazing bokeh
Weakness:
Slow AF in low-light if non-center AF point is used
I just bought this lens for my EOS 400D (rebel XTi). It works only wide open at 2.8, because it has to be re-chipped for other aperture values, but it doesnt matters to me, because I like 2.8 so much :)

Corner-to-corner performances
Weakness:
Slow AF
I bought this lens dirt cheap on eBay out of curiosity, given its good reputation. I used to have a Nikkor 24mm 2.8 AF-D which I sold for lack of use after going digital but had some remorse afterward.

I bought this lens for my Nikon F90x in 1998 in Tokyo. I used my F90x until 2006 and I have kept it a side because film printing become not so convenient now. Today I have given my 24mm 2.8 Sigma for fungus cleaning to Sigma Singapore, as I just bought Nikon D300. Before giving it for cleaning, I tried it with D300 and after 10 year, it work as good with the new camera.

Light Sharp Great Bokeh
Weakness:
AF hunting My grandfather gave me this lens when I was getting into Photography. I have three pictures on my wall that were taken with this lens. It is nice and sharp. The AF hunts around a little bit, but for scenic shots to me its not that big of a deal. Customer Service Never had to use it. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Clear, sharp, solid and has lasted 8 years so far with no problems. Almost certainly good enough to see off any zoom lens. Build quailty is not Canon L series, but is unmatched at this price.
Weakness:
Like most non Canon lenses from 8 years ago, the autofocus is woeful, but it's a 24 mm so you don't need it anyway. Bought one of these because I couldn't afford the Canon 28mm at the time. A great little lens and affordable too. It has produced many sharp pictures with good colour reproduction. The 24 mm focal length is more interesting than 28mm or 35mm. I find myself reaching for it more often than you might expect. Focuses right down to 40mm and takes some interesting images at that range. Would make a great 35mm equivalent on a digital EOS, but my older version will not work with them. Have they fixed this? I do not know... Be aware of this if you are thinking of buying one. Customer Service Haven't needed them. Similar Products Used: Canon 50mm F1.8 Series I |

Strength:
It works nicely, focuses close, and enlargments don't show its optics immediately.
Weakness:
focuses a bit slower than Nikor's. For a cheap little itty-bitty lens, it's very good. Compared to the Nikor 28, it's better! Customer Service No need Similar Products Used: Nikor 28mm |

Strength:
Optically an incredible lense in resolution and contrast Color blows me away, Very Leica like in clarity of transmission. Metal construction in ZEN finish is easier to grip than plastic Nikon barrel.
Weakness:
Noisy AF, speed on both my N90s bodies is fine, slower on my wifes N8008s and even my F100. I have observed many mechanical focus lenses Focus slower on F100. At tge time I purchased this lense Sigma was producing AF Nikon lenses. This was the era when Sigmas in Nikon AF mount focused in the "Nikon Direction". At the same time I purchased this lense, I opened a Nikop shipping box in my friends camera shop and removed a box containing a factory frsh 20/2.8 AF Nikon and it had a Sigma rear cap. I also bought it. Customer Service The only customer service I have ever needed from Sigma is to purchase a replacement lense hood and front cap for my 70-200/2.8. Strength:
-Great sharpness and contrast. -Lightweight. -Solid metal construction(for its price). -Amazing value for money.
Weakness:
-Not the fastest in AF but no need for it on a 24 mm lens. -Noisy focusing. -Makes you feel less happy for the rest of your lenses.... Sigma 24 2.8 owner: "Hmmmm no no no! There must certainly be something wrong with this sigma crap! It can't be sharper than my BLABLABLA that I spent a fortune to buy..." "Of course! These photos were obviously taken with my precious BLABLABLA! I must have forgotten it!" Strength:
Very sharp from edge to edge, independent of stop set. Macro 1:4.
Weakness:
The build quality solid, but not the first class. This lens is a first class wide angle lens. It can be not said about all Sigma lenses, but this lens is a very good exception. It exists a possible explanation for this fact. The Sigma factory produces lenses for Leica-cameras (as Leitz-lenses!), too. And what a surprise: The MTF-diagrams of Leitz Elmarit-R and Sigma 2,8/24 were practical IDENTICAL at Photodo test site (unfortunately MTF-diagrams not more available now). The Photodo test result for Elmarit-R 2,8/24 is 3.2, the test result for Sigma 2,8/24 is 4.0! I think, in this case the same glass as in Elmarit-R is used in the Sigma 2,8/24, too, only for a fraction of the Leitz price. No wonder, in such case Sigma 2,8/24 MUST BE an excellent lens. It is very probably a Leitz lens in a Sigma dress. Customer Service Not tested Similar Products Used: Distagon 2,8/28, Yashica ML 2,8/28 |

Strength:
Sharp and contrasty at a great price, also has macro.
Weakness:
build quality not as good as more expensive lenses, somewhat loud, not as fast as Canon (though faster than I expected). Unable to afford any of the Canon super wide-angle lenses (which I consider 24mm and under), I decided to go ahead and try the Sigma 24/2.8, especially since I got it in a great deal on eBay. I just got the first roll back and I was amazed at the sharpness and excellent contrast of this lens. The shots were sharp to the edges and contrast was just how I like it. I would recommend this lens to anyone who wants a great value- it's somewhat hard to find, but well worth it.
