Strength:
I love it Good Value for money It works on most EOS Cameras produced before 2001
Weakness:
You cant update the chip for the new series of Canon cameras Bought this lens in 2001 in my favorite Second-hand shop. Worked perfectly together with my old Canon EOS 500N. Yesterday i bought a new Canon EOS 33 (ELAN 7), because its a real good camera and quite a lot better than my old Canon. What do you know, both of my Sigma lenses doesnt work with the new ELAN 7. Sigma has at free service, where you can send in your lens for a chip upgrade, but not with this lens. So please, if you consider to buy this lens, please make sure you dont have a Canon Elan 7 (eos 30/33), the new EOS 300V, the digital 300D or the 10D It will NOT work, and there is NO chip upgrade available from Sigma! Customer Service Well, i dont know how to prevent people to buy this lens and i really dont want to, but Sigma should have a BIG banner on their website warning Canon owners to check compatibility before buying used and some new lenses (produced before 2001) Similar Products Used: Sigma 105 mm F2.8 Ex Macro, is upgradeable for Free |

Strength:
"Warm" colors Bargain price
Weakness:
S-l-o-w focus construction I think this is a great lens for the $. I bought mine used for $200 (I think) on the "Bay" and have been very happy with it. It photographs "warm" but heck, I like that! I do all of my macro shots w/flash set at -1.7 stops which opens up the shadows and leaves the photo looking natural. It is extremely sharp w/this flash routine! I have a Nikkor 60mm, Nikkor 105mm, but like this one the best when taking flower shots-I think the Nikkors are just barely sharper but I like the Sigmas color rendition the best. Customer Service Ain't needed it-"ain't misbehavin'!" Similar Products Used: Phoenix 100mm macro Nikkor 60mm macro Nikkor 105mm macro Sigma 90mm macro |

Strength:
Very sharp-I've got 60mm and 105mm Nikkors (both 'D' lenses)and I like its warm color rendition especially when using it on flower shots.
Weakness:
Slow focus. Feels a little fragile but it's worked fine for a couple of years (I bought it used) This is a wonderful lens for me. It is very slow focusing but other than that it's great. Color rendition is a little warm but what the hey-I like it that way! I use my Nikon 4T on the front "with a shade of course and I get 1:1. Customer Service Still carefree-knock on wood. Strength:
Nice size with a very solid build Excellent macro ability Will take famous Nikon 3T & 4T close-up filters
Weakness:
AF a little slow No "D" chip Greeninsh tint An excellent compact prime lens for the money. Sure it’s no Nikkor 200mm f4 Macro. But it was also 1/10th the price!!! This lens works great for macro and regular photography alike. It’s internal focusing makes using a polarizing filter much easier (front element does not turn). It is well built with metal attachment ring. It feels good and sold in your hands. The focus is a little slow for a prime, but again it’s bargain priced and the image quality is what really counts. When compared to the others listed below this lens did show a slight greenish tint to the images. In addition, it was a bit more contrasty than I would like - the shadows were darker with this lens than with the Nikkors. As far as sharpness are concerned, I could tell only a tiny difference on sharpness between this and the Nikkors. But these are minor issues. The macro capacity of this lens is very nice. It focuses to 1:2 without any accessories. It also has a great working distance for close-ups (15 inches min focus). The 52mm front element would allow for the use of Nikon (high quality) 3T and 4T close-up filters. Overall, a very good deal for someone looking for a good quality macro lens Dimensions are 4.5 in X 2.5 in Customer Service NA Similar Products Used: Nikkor 75-300 f4.5-5.6 Nikkor 70-210 f4 Sigma 75-300 DL Macro f4-5.6 D |
