Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX Macro 35mm Primes

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX Macro 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

Includes reviews for the new "DG" digital SLR version of the lens. The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX Macro delivers superb, distortion-free images throughout its broad focus range, from infinity telephoto to 1:1 (life-size) macro, as close as 12.3" without accessories. This new medium telephoto macro lens employs a new design concept for digital SLR cameras. Its new lens power layout produces an excellent optical performance and also reduces flare and ghost. This new lens is designed to reduce the influence of harmful light caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. Macro 105mm F2.8 EX DG allows greater working distance between the lens and subject. High contrast and excellent image quality are made possible in all shooting ranges. This macro lens is ideal for digital SLR cameras as well as film SLR cameras.

Strength:

Very sharp and high contrast.

Weakness:

Brand image, my friend keep asking you have what in your F100?

This is a very good lens. Buy with confidence. EX finish looks very nice. I also owns the above lenes. After comparing the final picture: Better result for half the price. Please use high saturation film like Agfs Ultra50 or Fuji Reala 100. You will be amazed.

Strength:

Relatively cheap. High image quality: contrast and sharpness are excellent already wide open. It's solidly made but still lightweight. Goes directly to 1:1

Weakness:

There's a bit of barrel distortion, noticeable in architectural shots.

Image quality could hardly be better. Distortion could be improved. An excellent value for the money. I recommend it to every outdoor photographer, and it's very good for people/portraits too!

Strength:

Exceptionally sharp. Solidly built. Affordable.

Weakness:

Have to go through two steps to switch to manual focus. Minor inconvenience.

This is my third Sigma lens. I am very pleased overall. This 105 1:1 is exceptionally sharp. The focus limiting feature (so the lens doesn't hunt its whole range to find the correct focus) is a nice feature. It is very solid feeling. It focuses easily. It is very bright. I use it with confidence. I am thrilled with it. Reasonably priced for such quality.

None so far

I was looking between this lens and the Nikon's. I order them both and decided to stick with the Sigma. Better value for the money and I am not into selling my pictures. More than adequate for my needs.

Strength:

1:1 ability and a solidly built lens.

Weakness:

None to speak of.

An excellent lens for the price, well worth every penny. It actually spends more time on my camera than any other lens I own. I'm looking foreward to trying the Sigma 180mm.

Strength:

Optical quality, Light weight, Price

Weakness:

Selection MF/AF : to be done twice ! On the camera body + on the lense !

Excellent optical quality (Very good at f2.8, excellent after), very good manual focus ring, distance limiter for faster AF, reasonable price, good build quality. But the selector MF/AF is ridiculous : it must be used WITH the selector on the camera ! Twice the work. Nonsense.
Anyway, highly recommended. Excellent for Macro, Portraits, etc.
