Strength:
fast 2.8 fstop great for nature & sports. built in lens hood exhibits low levels of flair beautiful design of tripod collar lets lens maintain low profile on tripod use of ED glass for superb sharpness beautiful out of focus highlights IF inner focus design maintains lens balance
Weakness:
price however it was worth every penny paid I don't own yhe newer 300 2.8 FA* lens . Mine was the 300F2.8 Ka* manual focus lens. However I did use the AF lens once at a Pentax sponsorwed day at the Louisville Zoo. New lens out performs older style . Close focus on new lens 6.6ft. old lens 10ft. weight new 88.0 oz. old 104.8oz. no. of elements new 10 old 8. The new one was sharper than the old one. Customer Service Lens was dropped about 7ft height and fell on front element on rock surface. Damaged IF mechanism and destroyed front PF filter. Pentax had to send to Japan for repair . Took about 5-6 months. Cost of repair including shipping & filter about 575.00 Pentax repainted lens replaced focusing helicoil it looked and operated like new.
