Strength:
Excellent sharpness, fast, rugged, and relatively inexpensive lens. Fantastic colors.
Weakness:
Not very common when produced, and hard to find today. Most people opt for the faster f/1.4 version which was still in production as of January 2009. Excellent sharpness, fast, rugged, and relatively inexpensive lens. You get a LOT for your money with the Pentax FA 50mm f/1.7 lens. It is sharper than the f/1.4 version up to f/2 and has a more subdued bokeh which renders the out of focus areas like a Monet masterpiece. The 1.4 produces more exciting backgrounds, but it's a matter of personal taste.
