Strength:
The same size as the 50mm standard lens and still very well corrected and moderately fast. You can shoot this lens wide open with very little vignetting, unlike most faster wideangles that are heavier and cost you way more. These lenses were very popular and there are many on the used market, keeping prices around $100 or less on eBay and large photo dealers.
Weakness:
Like all wideangle lenses, it will suffer more from flare than the 50mm lens when shot into the sun or strong light source. The lens hood helps some. This is the lens that many photographers choose as a standard lens over the 50mm lens if their tastes run to panoramic nature shots, indoor group shots, or environmental portraits, etc. This lens is very well corrected, moderately fast, and one of the lowest cost wideangle Zuiko lenses. Mine is an early silver nose single-coated version, yet contrast and color rendition is very good. Customer Service Never used Olympus service. I buy only used Olympus gear and Camtech does all my service work. They do a very good job. Similar Products Used: Nikkor 35mm f2.8, Canon 28mm f2.8 |

Strength:
Sharp with no distortion. Great for people shot - no one complains that I have made them fat in the face.
Weakness:
None at all I resisted buying this focal lenght for years but find it just perfect for group shots. A very very sharp lens which is so easy to focus. Much more useful than I ever imagined! Customer Service Never needed even though bought second hand Similar Products Used: 30 cameras & lens over as many years, but Olympus is king. |
