Strength:

Silky smooth focus
Very sharp
Very versatile - can also be used as a "normal" lens

Weakness:

Focus travel above 2 feet is very small, making it more difficult to focus distant objects

This is a great lens and an outstanding bargin, especially if you pick up a used one as I did. It is especially good with flower closeups - no messing with extension tubes or bellows, calculating exposure, etc. The focus is smooth as butter, and being able to get a true 1:1 macro, and anything in between that and infinity is a real plus. No more extension tubes for me! And, I can leave it on my F3HP body and take pictures of the grandkids with the same lens.

Strength:

A SUPERB lens at close distances. I have never used a true macro lens before and am amazed at how close one can get with this lens. Amazingly clear and detailed pictures are possible. Contrast and resolution are high. In a pinch, I suppose this lens could be used as a 'normal' lens'. Very smooth focusing.

Weakness:

Seems a bit big when compared to a 'normal' lens but this is probably typical of lenses of this type.

Previous reviews of this lens have been most helpful and accurate. I look forward to exploring many possibilities with this lens.

I have never used a true macro lens before. I do have a zoom that allows a macro function, but it doesn't even come close [no pun intended!] to what this can do.

Strength:

Very sharp, light weight, fast lens.

Weakness:

To achieve 1:1 photo the very short focusing distance cannot be used on insects. It can only be used for flowers, etc.

It's a keeper in my collection but I am purchasing a Nikkor 200mm f4 Micro to get the larger focusing distance for 1:1 shots of insects, etc.

Strength:

Excllent optical clarity & resolution
Excellent construction
Easy to use autofocus/manual focus
Fast (f/2.8)
Very crisp DoF

Weakness:

None that I can see

It’s an all around killer macro lens, it’s also good for portraits as well with very good DoF control, the AF / MF switch helps a lot. It's worth the money.

Model Reviewed: AF60mm f/2.8D Micro-Nikkor

Strength:

Very sharp with no barrel or pincushion distortion. I actually have the predecessor of the 60mm Micro, the 55 mm AF.

Weakness:

None

A must-have lens if you plan to do any 2-D copy-work. I've become increasingly picky about the quality of my slides and the images produced with this lens are first rate--there is NO DISTORTION!

A Canon FD Macro that was used with my old AE-1.
