Strength:

SHARP!! Excellent color and contrast light weight

Weakness:

uhhh... maybe the front element extension?

Auch!!! This lens is so sharp, it hurts! Took pictures of butterflies, and I could count the 'hairs' on it's back. Focus-distance is short for insects, but patience helped me to shoot great pics. AF is fast enough for me on my F100.

Strength:

All simply all. If i were to only have one, this would do it!

Weakness:

None.

This Nikon 60 mm Lens is really very very sharp and you will be amazed to see, that you sometimes need a filter for portraits especially when you make photos of older people e.q. The colours and contrast is very good and sometimes i often wonder how this lens works, and believe me !i am very critical with my work ! Now here comes the best part;i heard from different sources that the old manual Nikkor 55 mm 3,5 was even sharper and better especially at f8,and f5,6,so i got hand in some samples, and GOD they were better! It sounds crazy but once again new stuff is NOT always the best, due to my experience so if you dont need the AF stuff go for manual ones. Even so i still rate the Nikkor AF 60mm 2,8 a five star performer! Buy it!or better;buy both!

Strength:

Very Sharp good Color and contrast Reasonably priced

Weakness:

Slow AF action, I used MF in most cases for taking moving bugs.

Definite choice for Micro. I used this lens b4 with my F90X shooting small animals, mostly insects. Using this lens to take insects photos on the field is not easy: AF actions seems rather slow and u need to be very close to the subject...somehow scary using this lens to take spiders and bees nests pictures. But this lens was always my first choice since the lens products extremely sharp images.

Strength:

Sharpness, sharpness, sharpness. This is the sharpest prime lens I have ever used. I have been shooting D1x & D1 since 2000 and this is the only lens I have used where 90% of the time no sharpening at all is needed, the other 10% only a small bit does the trick. In general, all digital images need some sharpening because of the AA filter over the CCD.

Weakness:

Plastic construction (although still solid), the price should warrant a steel body. The front of the lens extends a lot at 1:1 ratio, although I can live with this.

A really sharp lens. The results are stunningly sharp. Colour & contrast are great too. Can be used as a standard lens but may be too sharp for portraits, even at 2.8. The short 60mm means a tripod is not needed and the short barrel doesn't cause a shadow from the flash, even when extended for 1:1. The body is plastic but still feels solid, the AF/MF switch means you can switch without fiddling with the tiny switch on the D1x body. While not being cheap, the price compares favourably with the Tamron, Sigma & Tokina versions.

Strength:

1. very very sharp. 2. moderate price. 3. perfect for flowers and in fact insects, yes, insects, I don''t need the 105mm macro.

Weakness:

1. too sharp for portrait. 2. I doubt the mechanism and precision will age quite quickly due to its complexity. 3. when focus to 1:1, the front element extension is a bit scary (3 coaxial layers sliding, gotta see yourself), beware of ruining this delicate part.

This shouldn''t be used as a portrait lens as blood vessels may show up! (a softer will help though). It replaces, without any compromise, a normal prime. Among the sharpest Nikkors. Excellent manual focus except that the front element movement when close to 1:1 is exaggerated and should be taken care of. Perfect for flower shoots and those insects on flowers like butterfly or bees, I''ve numerous pics of them with this lens. I''m advocating it for insects just because its focal length is shorter than the 105mm or higher! why?! because when doing close-up on fast-moving insects it''s much easier to handheld rather than setting up the tripod. A shorter focal length will result in sharper pics when we''re talking about handholding. Another reason is that in close-up we need flash to clear the shadow from your body and a shorter lens is more compatible with the pop-up or attached flash head tilted downwards. Also, it makes you feel like a pro when attached to lower-end bodies like F80/65/55 due to its pro look :)

Strength:

Solid feel, Micro, outstanding optics

Weakness:

close macro

Beats any current 50MM in Quality feel. Reasonable price $400 new with 5 years warranty. Great 1st lens for normal lens. Fills void between my other lens. Don't try to micro any bee's nest or you could be in trouble. Extremely close focus on micro. Micro is clean but if your looking for Micro go with the 105

Strength:

Sharp!!
Great color rendition.
F2.8 really helps in low light condition.

Weakness:

Maybe 85 mm Micro is more versatile? But I am happy with this since I can use it as a normal lens.

This is a great lens. One of my favorate along with 80-200mm f2.8 ED-D. I took several photos for my friend, you can see every facial details of him (used as a normal lens). And micro photo is even sharper. A great lens for portrait.

Customer Service

I hope not to use them.

Model Reviewed: AF60mm f/2.8D Micro-Nikkor

Strength:

As you might gather from these review, this is a very sharp lens. What's more, the lens handles very well. Nikon's design lets you switch between full range macro and a limited range that saves autofocus power. The best feature is the manual focus switch that lets you go manual instantly when autofocus is getting tedious to use. At the price, this may be the best price/performance value in the Nikon line. The size is reasonable and you may consider forgoing a "normal" lens for one of these if you don't need the speed.

Weakness:

Most macro lenses get soft at near infinity ranges. I don't know about this one since it's not the lens I'd choose for landscapes (I may never find out).

A bargain for a lens of this quality.
