Strength:
This lens is unique in a number of ways: It is only 200 grams, it is just as small as a Nikkor 50mm 1.8, it has the same lens-speed as the pro-zooms, it is really really sharp, AND it cost next to nothing used! What's there not to like? Every Nikon-shooter should own one! Did I mention that the bokeh and light transmission is much better than with the pro-zooms? That's a bonus for having only 4 lens-elements : ) Weakness:
Single coated with a non-recessed front element, makes a hood compulsory to protect against light from outside the frame. Even the bright sky is enough to reduce contrast due to veiling flare, and the sun can wreack havoc. But get the longest 52mm rubber or plastic hood you can find on ebay for no cost at all, and you're fine. The lens CAN be used without a hood if you are aware of the problem and good at shielding away the sun with your free hand. Price Paid: 50£

Weakness:
Single-coated, contrast fallls down as direct sunlight emerges. This lens is a big surprise. I got this as a "hood" with my F90X. At the first time i looked through it, was something to fall in love with easy and the first shots were exactly the same. This lens has beautiful bokeh, very good sharpness even widely opened and good color saturation. My one is the second version with the metal ring, but appears to be single coated, as it reflect violet colors from its front lens. Stopping down to F4 and sharpness is perfect, contrast superb. Keep away direct light from this lens, use hood and an MC filter. Color is a bit warm, but really not disturbing, i like this tone for human faces. Focussing ring is very smooth and precise, the lens itself is very well built.
