Strength:
Construction and very compact. One of the smaller Leica-R wides.
Weakness:
Price, as with all Leica glass it's roughly twice the price of other lenses that produce equal results. Having made comparisons with other 28mm lenses such as the 28mm f2.8 ais Nikkor, 28mm f2.5 MC Rokkor, 28mm f3.5 SMC Takukar, 28mm f2.8 Canon FD, and Olympus 28mm f2.8 and using both Delta 100 & Kodak Ektar 100 films I have concluded that this lens does not live up to it's reputation or the performance of the 28mm M-mount Elmarit. It's no bette than the Nikkor or Rokkor 28's ( I would rate it higher than the other brands mentioned. If you own a Leica R body, this is a fine lens to own. If your shopping for a 28mm for digital, for less than 1/4 the price of this lens you can get another brand. Customer Service Never needed it. 28mm Elmarit-R f/2.8 (ROM)
Strength:
Optical perfection
Weakness:
none This is the best wide angle lens I have ever used. Optically, it is pin sharp from f/2.8 to f/22; at f/2.8 it is sharper than the Minolta at any aperture. It does not display any distortion or flare, even with strong sunlight directly in front of the lens! Customer Service Excellent Similar Products Used: Minolta AF |
