Strength:
Rich detail in general use, especially so in portrait work. Compact size for comfortable handling. Excellent build quality. Half-stop click stops on aperture ring (which you won't find on either Leica's or Cosina/Voightlander's lenses).
Weakness:
None so far. Beautiful, balanced performance in a compact and solid package. (Specifics don't come to mind here...the lens is simply good) Customer Service Not needed. Similar Products Used: SLRs: The usual suspects (Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus, Rollei SL2000F). Non-SLR: Leica CL, Konica Hexar autofocus, Olympus XA, Minox EL/GL/GT, Ricoh GR1, etc. |

Strength:
Extremely durable aluminum construction, snappy focusing, relatively light and compact.. Comparable performance to the Elmarit-M 90 (which is perhpas one of the best 90s ever made) at a fraction of the price.
Weakness:
If anything, the M-Hexaon line has suffered from poor publicity. Not only for its own line, but Konica has failed to market their lenses as viable alternatives for Leica M users. The current RF's 90 frameline is still quite small, making it sometimes difficult to focus critically. Konica's 90/2.8 Hexanon is an fully multi-coated Ernostar-type lens, much like the Contax G 90/2.8. The benefit of this design is a more compact 90 than, say, a Planar design. I traded it my ancient Nikkor-P 85/2 for one a few months ago and have been absolutely amazed at the performance. I even dropped this lens from 1 meter onto concrete by accident, with no apparent damage. Contrast remains high even at f/2.8 and at f/8 it is razor sharp. Customer Service Not needed, but Konica's service here in France is fairly reliable and jovial. Similar Products Used: Nikkor 85/2, Canon 100, Hexanon 85/1.8 |
