AF 85mm f/1.4 G Maxxum
Strength:
Boy, what a lens! Very reliable focusing even at 1.4 apreture. It renders extremely sharp pictures even at low-light conditions either atmospheric or artificial.
Weakness:
This piece of glass can surely make a hole in your poket. Other than that, none I could find. After you realize that the only object in focus at 1.4 apreture will have been the one you aim at, this is the best lens for any portrait or low-light job. Coupled with portrait and fantasy cards it produces remarcable effects. If interested, email me for a picture. Strength:
Very comfortable with its F1.4 brightness to focus on subject (specially eyes reflection)and make me have more confidence before ralease shutter button.
Weakness:
Have a bit noise when focusing. Highest modulation transfer, very low distortion, superior viewfinder brightness(specially when attach with Maxxum 9).After the enlargement ,even up 16"x20" its resolution still excellent. If you are a portrait photographer 85 F1.4 is the must. One GREAT portrait lens, Crystal clear from corner to corner.
Weakness:
None If you want one fantastic portrait lens, that won't drain the bank, this is IT! Great for landscapes and low-lite too! This 85mm stays on my 800si 90% of the time. Customer Service Not needed Similar Products Used: Nothing comparable |

Strength:
This is one of the best lenses I own -- it even beats my 300/2.8. It has awesome bokeh. It is unbelievably sharp. Nearly everything about it is perfect -- and the construction is extremely good, too (I have the old version with metal everywhere).
Weakness:
Somewhat slow focusing. Too thin MF ring. And those lenses scares people. Just buy it. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Sharp, everything else has been covered below, just wanted to reiterate this is a great lens.
Weakness:
Be careful with depth of field, very little room for error when wide open. Excellent fast lens for a low price with such quality built in. Buy it! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Top notch optics. Well built. Supplied with hood and case.
Weakness:
Expensive and heavy. This is truly a professional caliber lens. The only drawbacks are the relatively high cost and weight. Minolta doesn't offer a lighter, less expensive f/1.8 counterpart. Customer Service None needed. Similar Products Used: 85mm AF Nikkor |

Strength:
relatively economical optics with high optical performance and handling. compact size. very consistent optics across the film.. .just like another very typical double gaussian lens. beautiful back ground defocusing.
Weakness:
not much at this price. I paid 669$ at B&H I am a optical engineer and amatuer photo hobbyst. I like minolta the way they design lens and camera.their optics are very consistence and accurate. along with their macro lens 100/2.8 this is very good standard 35mm portrait lens combo. Customer Service DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE Similar Products Used: I used--> 50mm/1.4 AFD Nikkor. 60mm/2.8 Nikkor |

Strength:
Extremely fast. High quality optics. Nice solid feel.
Weakness:
None This lens is a winner all around. It does everything I could want a lens to do. The speed is great for low-light conditions. The optics are incredible. It is an ideal lens for portraits. I was stunned when I shot my first roll of film with this lens and have been very happy with it. Outdoor portraits are exciting to shoot with this lens. Buy it. It is the best lens I have ever used. Strength:
Matched with the Maxxum 7 it is easy to use.
Weakness:
I am one of the people that purchased a lens that is out-of-focus I have a 24-105 that is clearer. That is when I decided to send it back for repair. This is the second 85 mm G lens. My first was great and sharp this one I had to send back to Minolta. Minolta service is second rate, slow and not very customer friendly. If I were a pro and needed the lens I would never buy Minolta again. Customer Service Received the lens, sent me notice that took a week that they needed more paper work I faxed it to them and they said they received it days latter and now I told it will take up to 3 weeks to fix. AF 85mm f/1.4 G Maxxum
Strength:
Very sharp. Wide aperture makes it a wonderful lens for portraits and low light. Good Bokeh.
Weakness:
Relatively slow, noisy AF (there's lots of glass to move) It's a very good portrait lens. However, at wide apertures, the depth of field can be so shallow that unless you're extremely careful with focus, your subject's eyes can be soft. Exceptional build quality. Customer Service Very helpful Similar Products Used: None |
