I just got my first three rolls back. Two of them had been scanned 18meg per image. I believe what they say about the T star lenses. Even showed superior quality on black and white roll.

So great the lens you can buy at this range, even beat all others of 4x price. You can't be without it as a Zeiss user.

Strength:

SOOOO sharp! and fast...smooth operation on the appeture and focus rings. I'm still experimenting with photography. I have to say I love this lens.

Weakness:

I've had none...my camera droped about 6 feet out of my photo backpack and hit my floor 50 1.4 first, I allmost started to cry(well not really) but I picked it up and it was perfectly fine! Its like a rock!

I bought the ZEISS 50 1.4 along with a Contax ARIA. The two work wonders together. I usually shoot around town or at forest preserves and the pictures are just amasing. The people who own the 1 hour photo by my house offered me a job because of the pictures i take with the 50 1.4. And I'm just starting out! All my friends comment on the sharpness of the prints. This is the best 50 1.4 lens at a great price.

Strength:

sharp ... fast ... sharp ... fast ... sharp ... fast

Weakness:

none, some say it's expensive but it's an equivalent price for anything from nikon or canon

This is a very fast, very sharp lens. I use it with the Contax Aria and they go beautifully together. It's a perfect travel combination, lightweight yet solid feel. The lens is a perfect balance for this camera. I've just shot some rolls of family portraits and they're fantastic. Ok, the clarity of the lens shows up every freckle and hair but that's the character of someone, no? My sister played with the camera and her first comment after looking through the viewfinder was "my god! it's sooo clear!". My own sentiments exactly. The f1.4 wide open makes focussing very nice in lowlight conditions and yet still produces excellent prints.

Strength:

sharp.fast.Good for colour prints.

Weakness:

not so contrasty as most said, especially in B&W.

The Yashica T5 compact with CZ 35/3.5 blew me away.
So i had to had this. I use a Yashica FX3 with this.

Well, it has good sharpness, but its contrast is only above average. I really wanted this to be good. But it fell below my expectations. Or maybe I was using it all wrong?;)

I find focussing difficult above 10 metres. Its infinity focus is very unsure.

I also use a Rollei Prego 90 compact with the Schneider lens. I HAVE TO SAY THIS BEATS THE cz 50 1.4! in terms of contrast and colour rendition.

I have compared side to side pictures taken on the same day and same films with these two. the rollei is just as good if not better in most conditions.

I can trust the rollei in any situations for my use. And I like its very very contrasty lens.

CZ 50 1.4 would have blown me away too if I hadn't use the rollei 90 and yashica T5 to start with.

All in all...i would rate them from top to bottom.. ROLLEI 90---> CZ 50 1.4---> YASHICA T5.

A very good lens all in all.

Popular Photography recently did a test to find the "best" 50/1.4 made. Their findings showed that this lens is the standard by which you should judge all others. Good enough for me! It's also VERY reasonably priced

Strength:

Small, light, well-built, and superb optical quality (and cheap!)

Weakness:

None

Great lens, economical to buy, easy to carry, and capable of producing superb sharpess, color, and contrast. I have the older AE version, but I can't imagine it being much better.
