Strength:
Fast Auto focus, quiet, and superb optics.
Weakness:
None This is a great fast middle lenght telephoto lens. It is relativly light, quick focusing, and quiet. This lens has great color rendition and image sharpness. This lens is a great value for the price. Customer Service Hasn't been required Similar Products Used: Canon 300mm f4 L |

Strength:
Stunning optics. Dead fast AF thanks to USM. Solid robust build, typical of L lenses.
Weakness:
Big, heavy. This is a very special purpose lens, and the f/1.8 may not be needed for many people, but when you DO need f/1.8, there is nothing else to match this lens. An absolutely incredible piece of engineering and optics. Customer Service Excellent Similar Products Used: Canon 200/2.8L |

Strength:
Fast and accurate autofucusing on EOS-1V and EOS-1N bodies. Sharp and contrasty optics. Very good tonal quality. Well built. Manual focus "feel" rivals or surpasses most manual focus lenses---exceptionally smooth.
Weakness:
Tripod collar foot is rather small and doesn't balance in the hand as well as a longer one might. Really large lens hood that counteracts the relative compact size of this very fast medium telephoto. A great, fast autofocus lens that does indeed live up to its legendary optical reputation. Very versatile with the 1.4x and 2x converters (making a 280mmf/2.5 and 400mmf/3.5 lens, respectively). One of the best pieces of glass available. Customer Service Not needed Similar Products Used: Olympus Zuiko 250mmf/2.0 |

This is THE ULTIMATE lens for indoor sports. I used to shoot with Canon's 70-200 2.8L and 300 2.8L exclusively until I bought this lens. Now f/2.8 is TOO SLOW for me! Sharpness is SECOND TO NONE, and that includes products from Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, Mamiya and Hasselblad. This lens, at f 1.8 will beat out others at f/8! Gets very jealous looks from the Canon 70-200 2.8L, 300 2.8L, 400 2.8L users and extremely evil looks from Nikon users.
Weakness:
At 6.6 pounds, it's a touch on the heavy side. The 200 mm lens to end all lenses. Superbly sharp, easilly wasting Canon's own 300 2.8L! At f/1.8 you have MANY more chances to get "the shot", especially with poor high school sports/indoor lighting. Keeps shooting possible when other lenses are useless due to lighting conditions. In sharpness, this will beat out ANY medium format lens BY A LONGSHOT. That includes the Mamiya RZ APO series (Which are some of the sharpest around) and the Zeiss lenses in the Hasselblads. (Why do you think they're used for WEDDING/SOFT PORTRAITS?) I own many lenses from Canon's extremely fine lineup (200 2.8, 70-200 2.8L, 28-70 2.8L, 85 1.2L, 300 2.8L, 50 2.5 macro, 1.4x and 2x extenders) and the 200 1.8L is by far my favorite. Anything in Nikon ED glass that will have a prayer against this lens? Not a chance. Customer Service On par or better than Lexus service, which is outstanding. Strength:
Fantastically Sharp, Amazingly quick, beautifully built,
Weakness:
Heeeeeaaaaavveyyy 3 kilos, it wieghs more than my old 300mmF2.8 I love this lens and prefer to use it with a 1.4 extender than the 300F2.8L, I use it in all areas of my work, Press Conferences, Sports, News, Portraits, everything. If you can justify the price tag buyit, it will change your photography Customer Service Never failed in action, never needed to test any customer service Similar Products Used: 17-35 F2.8L, 28-80 F2.8/4L 70-200F2.8L,300F2.8L 400F2.8L |

Strength:
When combined my XMAS gift with my EOS D30 (Prime body) & 1.4X/2.0X I get an output of 448mm/2.5 & 640/3.5! AND alot of nice comments from the other casual buffs. Used 1st time at daughter's dance- great results from row 30. No flash no fuss.
Weakness:
OK it's heavy- i don't care. But, mostly i don't care for the big hood and lack of a stand alone cap. the leather sack that doubles as the cap is too cumbersome. Great case but wish there was an alternative means for protection without all the armor. bottom line is that I need a mission with this babe. I look forward to the day when the kids hit the field for sports. I'll be the clown with the monopod clicking away. Customer Service haven't had the need. I probably will drop before I wear-out the brute. Similar Products Used: Canon USM only: 17-35/2.8, 35-80/2.8 (my prime), 70-200/2.8, 35-350/3.5-5.6, 1.4X, 2.0X and a few other older non-AF |
