Canon 300mm f/4 FD Lens 35mm Primes

Canon 300mm f/4 FD Lens 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

This is another 300mm f4 but comes without the luxury of using rare earth glass in its optical formula. It is lightweight as compared with the bigger brothers. Select glasses of low and high refractive indices, used in the rear groups convex fifth and concave sixth elements respectively, equalize to correct field curvature.

Strength:

In general good building quality. Good and fast enogh focusing. No clear degradation at f 4. Could be used with a 1.4 x extender with reasonable quality.

Weakness:

Heavy, but this is normal for such a kind of lens. Not very high sharpness and contrast in particular if light condition are not good.

It is a big and quite heavy lens for my hands. I used it for several years on my Canon F1, mainly shooting B/W pictures.

The quality was reasonable, not excellent. You could get a lot of internal flares if you shot in bad light conditions.

For sports, in particular football, I found it quite good. The light was just enough in most cases. I could not afford a better and more rapid lens and so I had to adapt.

Customer Service

I did not need it, so I have no suggestion on this topic
