Strength:
Build quality
Weakness:
None. It does exactly as it says on the box.
I wanted a professional quality zoom lens that would not only be suitable for wildlife but also general telephoto purposes. I opted for the Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS USM instead of the 100-400 f5.6L. When the 70-200 is coupled with this 2x extender it becomes almost theoretically identical to the 100-400 lens. Although you lose 2 stops of light you still retain autofocus and IS with the f2.8 lens. I also have the benefit of using the lens without the extender for closer subjects. I had heard so much bad press about the 2x extender compared to the 1.4x that I was a little worried about its performance.

It goes to 520mm with my Eos 1D (1.3x multiplier). Not Bad...
Weakness:
All..yes.. I mean ALL the pictures taken are VERY GRAINY and NOT SHARP!! Very very disapointed... Better take the shots with regular lens and crop it..and it will still show much sharper image! I bought this extender for use with my EF 200mm f/1.8 Customer Service Not needed..I sold mine already =) Similar Products Used: I will never buy any extender anymore..Go with the longer lens for quality sake! |

Strength:
Improved optical performance, build quality, ergonomics,
Weakness:
none The build quality of this new version is excellent. Larger diameter than old version with weatherproofing ringss designed to match the new IS supertelephotos. You can also stack another converter behind the 2x without an extension tube. Compared to my old original version of the Canon 2x I feel this version is sharper with less light falloff in the corners. I now shoot the 2X on my 600mmF4IS and 300mmF2.8IS with the same confidence I used to have with the 1.4x. I also have used the new 2X and 1.4x stacked on my 600mm (1680mm) with publishable results. Customer Service CPS service is excellent Similar Products Used: Canon EF2x series 1 |
