When I first brought this product I was disappointed that it only stored 6 AA batteries. My disappointment soon disappeared when I tried it for the first time. The battery pack actually works WITH the other 4 batteries in the Speedlite 550 flash. So all up 10 x A4 batteries are charging the flash at any one time. Flash charge speeds have dropped from 3-4 seconds per charge to under 1 second (and most times the red charge light doesn’t even go out at all) . I shoot modeling photography and when your in the swing of things, waiting for the flash is the last thing you want to do! I thoroughly recommend this unit (I even brought a second one as I just couldn’t not have one now). The only down side to the unit is there is no manual. I know its pretty straight forward but I didn’t know if I should connect it with batteries in the flash or not and thus "had a go" and luckily it was ok (and didn't explode all over the place!) Not heavy at all. Cool carrying case. Attachable to camera's tripod mount. Does the job.

Cost too much.

This unit is a lifesaver. I just shot 5 rolls at a wedding with my 540EZ on max output and I didn't have to change the batteries at all. Typically, I would notice a slow down on the flash with 4 AAs after 3 rolls. This time, no slow down on recycling time. I just kept on shooting with a total of 10 AAs powering my flash.
