Strength:

It's an ISO 100/21° film made to be pushed up to ISO 1000/31°, if needed.

Weakness:

Relatively expensive and the film has some difficulty walking the walk.

I've shot this film at 100, 400, 800 and 1000. At 100, this film offers nothing special, and lacks the zing of hypersaturated competitors such as Kodak's Elite Chrome Extra Color. Pushed to 800 or 1000, this film just doesn't cut it, though grain and flat colors might just be the price you have to pay to shoot chromes at these speeds. My advice is to use an ISO 800/30°, color negative film instead.

However, at ISO 400/27°, this stuff shines like the sun. It's the best 400 slide film I've used (sorry Provia, Sensia II and Ektachrome.) I'm not alone in my opinion: The British publication "Practical Photography" also rated Fuji MS100/1000 as the top slide film they tested at ISO 400/27° (see their July 2000 issue).

If you just want one film to carry with you no matter the lighting you might face, this might be the film for you. Otherwise, I would just use this film at EI 400 and only push it to 800 or 1000 if my back were against a wall.

Strength:

Very good quality at 400ASA

Weakness:

In shades it renders too blue, Photoshop correction needed. Dark colors not reproduces accurately, i.e. dark blue appeared as almost black! Gamma correction after scanning 48 bits deep did not improve this. I needed quite some correction (Red +, Blue -) in photoshop to get an acceptable color balance.

As a 100SA film it does not compete well with Kodak 100S. At 400 ASA it produces much better results then any other transparency film I have used. Excellent film if you don't know in advance what speed to use. Otherwise use a dedicated film.

Strength:

It "speeds up the camera" and makes it easy when taking the pics.

Weakness:

The result! Beautiful as old pooridge, it looks boring grey and blurry. I rated EI 800 but as this is an "100"-roll I took it for granted that there should be a better sharpness. Dana (read her review below)is right about the green colour in the shadow, but knowing that the film is pushed I can accept some colour divergence.

Well, "Expert" is in nature photo crawling around loaded up with sharp film like Velvia and Provia 100. This time I was a "rookie" in Åre to watch the Mountainbike World Championships. The weather was grey and rainy so I thought I should try this film and I rated it as EI800.

The conclusion: It is better to use Kodak E100SW or Provia 100 pushed 1 stop (or maybe 2)and have a little help from a flash (rated -1 stops)synked at the closing of the shutter. With these rolls the shutterspeed was loooong, many pics had to go right to the bin but there were also fine colourful pictures ful of speed. It is better to be wasteful and take a lot of rolls with slow speed and get some few really good frames.

I give the film 2 stars only because I can imagine there exists moments when fast speed rolls are the only solution (but these moments are probably very rare).

Strength:

I hate it-- one of the worst slide films I've ever used

Weakness:

hideous color-- green shadows and anemic looking skin tones

This film is ugly. At 100, it can't compare to other 100 ASA films. Looks moderately better rated at 160 with a push 1. Looks nasty with green shadows if you try to push it any more than that. It really doesn't push as well as Fuji claims.

told the fuji rep what I thought of it-- he gave me more film and told me to try it again.
