Strength:
Sharp, punchy, saturated, flattering ("wow, just look at those colours, you captured those well")
Weakness:
(Over)saturated, (self) flattering ("wow, just look at those colours, you captured those well", well, actually no, it didn't quite look like that) Mixed feelings about this film. Yes it is sharp and will give you super-saturated and oh-so colourful slides but that's just the point; I can't help but feel you can stray too far from the truth and create this plasticky, almost artificial, view of the world. |

Strength:
Everything.
Weakness:
The slide film problem, exposure latitude, but it handles this very well. Saturated colors, good skin tones, low grain, high res., etc. This is a great slide film, even for low light, people pics (with flash). Similar Products Used: Kodak Elite Chrome 100. |

Strength:
NO grain Great latitude GREAT colours!
Weakness:
None I can think of. ISO 50 is great for sunny areas, absolutely no restrictions for speed. I'm very satisfied with this film. Literally there's no grain. It has very good shadow detail. I shot the slides on vacation and when I photographed the coast, I always metered the light from the sea and then the entire scene to see if there is too much difference in contrast. When there was no more than 2-3 stops difference I shot the picture. And I got great reproduction of blue colour _and_ details on the coast! Not a single slide had entirely blackish or ugly dark areas while all slides have rich, deep blue sky. Similar Products Used: Fuji Sensia series |

Pushes well 1 stop and a third Surreal colours Fine grain
Weakness:
Speed at 40. lattitude, but thats Transparency so... Not too hot in contrasty light. I started using this film recently since I have been shooting allot of Medium Format 120 roll film. It has taken ne a few rolls to find my feet with it and like any film you really need to build up a relationship in order to get the most out of it and understand it's qualities. I fell I am only at the tip on this iceberg. Some might call this film Disneychrome, others special effects film, myself I call it Velvet. This film seems to prefer more even light but by no means dull light. It doesn't handle high contrast scenes too well, where the shadows can block up and if you are not spot on with exposure you can blow out your highlights. The latitude is less than 3 stops, more like two. One shot will be bang on and the other will be a tiny bit deeper and darker than that. What you prefer is down to personal preferance. I like the slightly deeper saturated looks that this film offers and have shot it in bright morning sunshine with the sun over my shoulder and gained the most rich greens and bold blue skies. Without a Polariser your skies will be punched up in colour and definition anyway, so it's up to you where you want to go. The grain is tight, fine and barely there at all. Watch the green shift with time exposures as you may need an FLD to correct for this. Overall a great film, slower than 50asa, I rate it at 40 which gives a 1/3 of a stop over, most pro's do anyway and my E6 guy always bumps it anyway even if you haven't. I have pushed this film to 100 recently and gotten some great results, looks a bit like VS when pushed to 100 except without the contrast blowout at both highlight and base values, so by all means try and see but watch you don't have too many highlights or, bye, bye contrast control. Strength:
Very Fine Grain Saturated Colours Smooth tones, especially skies
Weakness:
Needs overexposing slightly with skintones Expensive if bought as individual rolls This is the best film I've used! The grain is practically invisable, even on a recent 20"x30" enlargement(from 35mm)!! The colours are supurb and well saturated although be careful with skintones as they tend to come out reddish, I always spot meter for skin (eg. faces) and then overexpose by 0.5 to 1 stop to keep the skin tones realistic. I am primarily landscape, though, and for this, this film is superb. A bit slow - I'm getting a more sturdy tripod soon to help combat this as I usually stop down to F/22 or F/27. Extremely Good Slide Film. I buy in bulk so It costs me about £3 per 36exp. roll. Customer Service On a film?! Strength:
Very saturated green and blue colors Sharp Contrasty, it'll pop your dim light images
Weakness:
Horrible red color rendition Too contrasty to shoot under bright light Not a general use film Expensive FX film, unsuitable for general photografy. Great for shooting scenics on a tripod in the early morning. Not that good at midday, it cannot handle contrasty images and you'll have to choose: burn the lights or deeply darken the shadows. Unable to accurately show the red colour: white people have red faces, reddish rocks tend to brown, red flowers are a blemish in your chrome. Worst film I've used for macro shooting. Strength:
Fine grain Excellent saturation
Weakness:
None yet I decided this film a try after reading reviews from this web site as well as comments by other photographers. This is now my main film for general photography. I like the saturation espically the bright blue skys and greens just look brillant on my light box. As I don't shoot people much have not tested flesh tones. Some people have said slow speed is a weakness this is not a weaknesss it is supposed to be a slow film. Customer Service None Similar Products Used: Provia 100 |

Strength:
amazing vivid color...able to process E6
Weakness:
slow speed I stopped using slide film back in the 70's. Kodachrome 25 mostly back then. I was amazed at the results of this stuff but soon found little use for it, doing portraits and weddings. So I shoots 4 rolls of this Velvia at a zoo one afternoon recently, had it processed (E6), and fell back in love. Reminded me of K-25, maybe a bit cooler, but the POP is certainly there.
