Strength:

The film is very good at doing pastel shades , I did some candid shots with the Nikkor Prime Telephoto of the cat in it's natural habitat ,the garden ; browns, greens and even white highlights were reproduced beautifully .
There's a warm colour balance and yellows were reproduced faithfully , blues were similar , I've a problem with low end consumer cameras turning blue into a turqoiuse shade .
Handled contrasty side and back lighting very well .

Weakness:

Too grainy , don't use it for anything detailed like flowers or expect sharp blow ups . Poor in overcast weather , you must have sunshine with this film .
Stick to Superia , you'll never go wrong with Fuji .

It all depends on what you plan to use the film for , to be fair the film was out of date and had been languishing in my fridge for a long time .
I would only use it if I absolutely had to have that handy speed , nor would I expect to have big blow ups from the negs .
I'm afraid the film is far, far , too grainy for me being used to my "chromes " and Ilford Black & White film which is by far superior .

Strength:

Good quality

Weakness:

Lots of places don't offer it in a four pack...at least that I have been able to find!

I shot several different subjects with this film and loved it. Good greens with outdoor nature landscape shots. Very little adjustment on colors or density needed at the lab. A definate step up from Kodak consumer films

Strength:

- lets you get higher shutter speeds for handheld - vibrant colours - vibrant colours - did I mention vibrant colours?

Weakness:

- expensive in most places - skni tone is not perfect, buit very acceptable - may see heavier grain in underexposed part of the print

This is my all around film. I use it outdoors, outdoors with fill flash and indoors with flash. Love the vibrant colours and in prints with lots of colour, the image seems to popout at you. It is very vivid. It doesn't match skintone as well as Fuji Reala but then again, how many other film does? Havign said that, it is still has acceptable skintone. Only during low light conditions and underexposure (part of the print) do you see some heavier grain. Otherwise, in good conditions and proper flash, prints look alive.

Strength:

Good color without becoming unnatural. Excellent and dramatic contrast, though not overdone (like Gold 400 or Supra 400) Better colors than Superia 400

Weakness:

Price!!! Expensive for a "consumer" film. Not ideal for all situations, but hardly inadequate.

Easily my favorite all around film! Thsi film seems to strike the perfect balance of everything a film can do well. Great colors, saturated without overdoing it. Dramatic but not overdone contrast. most of my best shots, have been taken with this film. Wonderful for indoor flashless portraits with primes. Handles indoor lighting very well, offering warm pleasing tones. For general all around use, it''''s really hard to beat. I prefer it to almost every print film I''''ve ever shot (save RG100, which has been discontinued) The drawbacks... Price. For a "consumer" film, it''''s price falls very close to "pro" films. If they sold this stuff in cheap 4 packs, I''''d buy it all up. (Though, the results I get, make me quickly forget the price I paid for it) For specialized purposes, like professional portrait or high contrast lighting situations, it may not be ideal. I''''ll switch to NPH400 in those situations (which is about the same price) But, for general photography, I have yet to see a photo taken with this film that made me wish I had loaded different film in the camera.

Strength:

Very sharp, grain not very noticeable most of the time, handles overexposure well, very good in overcast weather.

Weakness:

Very contrasty, over-saturated, poor skin tones, not for sunny weather.

I used this film in Scotland recently because the weather is so unpredictable and you need something that can handle the gloom. That it did very well. What it COULDN'T handle (IMO) were the periods of bright sunshine. It was way too contrasty and produced cartoon-like colours - orangey-pink faces, luminous grass, etc., a bit like RG100.
What I want is Reala at 400. I'll try Fuji NPH next and rate it at 320 or 250 as most people suggest.
Note: According to the packaging (here in UK), this is a newly revamped film, still made in US. I've heard new Supra is very contrasty - may be connected?

Great film to have overall. One can use this film for day time to night time scenes. The skintones are great with this film, as well as the warm color saturation. A must for anyone shooting with a point and shoot or an SLR!

Strength:

superior sharpness
accurate skin tones
accurate colors
very low graininess
very reliable for a consumer print film
my zoom lens likes it

Weakness:

cost a bit more, but worth it for portraits

This is my favorite print film due to its superb skin tones, accurate color saturation, and superior sharpness without graininess. Enlargements are incredible with fine detail and smooth color gradations. If you think that your camera is bad, try this film before chucking it, because this film is that good. It does let my slow zooms produce at the long end and its high sharpness keeps the short end happy. I know people that complain that when they enlarge Gold 100, they see all this graininess- I tell them to try Royal Gold 400 for both better sharpness/less graininess AND better for their cameras. You will not be disappointed unless it doesn't really matter- then, I'd use Superia 400, but not for people pics.

Strength:

smooth,sharp,clean film,higher speed,colors good

Weakness:

expensive to others

I use this film to counteract my zoom's 3.5-4.5 and it is great to be able to shoot at f8 (where almost any lense performs well). I am very happy with my lenses results from this film mostly because it lets me use the sweet spot of the lense. Of course, if I had pro lenses that are good wide open, any film would suffice. Thank God for technology! This film is good for even 3.5-5.6 lenses (N24-120), which eat out so much light, using anything slower would be ridiculous. These slower lenses would not exist if not for great films like Royal Gold 400 or equivalent Fuji film.

this is what i keep loaded in at least one camera body at all times because i alway know that i can count on it in any situation. Excellent colors, good grain (have done some BIG enlargements with no trouble), and good exposure latitude (have shot it from 25 asa thru 1000 and gotten good prints from it). One of my favorite films.
