Weakness:
Poor color quality, excessive graininess. I was very disappointed in this film. I frequently do wildlife photography, especially birds and was very disappointed in the results from a recent trip to Costa Rica. The film is very unforgiving of underexposure, leaving a grainy photo with very poor saturation. The Fuji Superia 800 that my partner was using did far better with the same settings, even when pushed to 1600. Bright blue Magpie Jays came out slate gray, with little detail. Strength:
Natural colors, true to life.Moderately fine grain for a for a high speed film. Good contrast and saturation. Can be processed by most labs.
Weakness:
None considering the speed of the film except a little pricy. Needed to shoot this film under the lights at Yankee Stadium. Pushed the film to ISO 2000 and were very satisfied with the colors, detail and grain. Film seemed to have good latitude because a few of the shots were under and over exposed at least one stop and came out great. Customer Service Haven't needed. Strength:
Reasonably fine grain, considering its speed.
Weakness:
Doesn't push especially well, compared to Fuji NHG II, which looks better at 1600 than Royal Gold 1000 looks at 1000. High speed films still involve compromises. The Kodak Royal Gold is brighter than the Fuji NHG II, but has more grain and higher contrast. Fuji NHG II has a bit finer grain and less contrast with more-accurate colors under more different lighting situations. They both have their uses. I think an important note in print film evaluations, is that quite a bit depends on the lab doing the printing. Similar Products Used: Fuji NHG II (800) both at 800 and pushed to 1600 (accurate, tighter grain, more pushable, but somewhat less saturated color). |

Strength:
Picture quality. Very smooth for me. Great colors.
Weakness:
none I used this is my Pentax IQ zoom 115G at Disneyworld at night. The night time parades, the lights at Christmas all turned out simply amazing. No grain. The pictures just jumped off of the paper. The colors were dead on. every picture turned out sharp and clear. I love this film. It's pricey, but worth it. My photo albums look great. Strength:
This film is great for meetings and other events where a flash would make you look stupid and or stop the action. Also fantastic for sports and other inside events. I find that this film actually performs better under really bad flourescent lighting. LOL
Weakness:
Not too great with flash added for some reason, it seems to perfom better in low light. Royal Gold 1000 is always in my case, I never leave home without at least two rolls of the stuff handy. I purchase the 24 exp box which allows me the opportunity to change films and or shoot a 12 shot event. Processing for me takes place at Sam's Club, where they do a great job and actually check out/push or whatever is needed to make the prints good. Customer Service Kodak Customer service always gives personal information rather than being stuck in a computer (Press 1 to hear, Press 2 to ....) You get to talk to a real person at Kodak. Similar Products Used: Fuji 1600 is my other film of choice, however it does not perform as well as the Kodak Royal Gold 1000 does overall. |

Strength:
High speed. Nice grain.
Weakness:
Can be expensive and hard to find. This is a great film for low lighting like stadiums and auditoriums. The grain is fairly sharp for its speed. It seems more saturated than Fuji Superia 800. I have had some nice looking 8x10's made from this film. I took this film to the 1996 Summer Olympics in my birth place of Atlanta. I took some nice pictures in the Omni and on the streets. Customer Service Great Web site. Similar Products Used: Kodak Zoom 800 |

Strength:
high definition for the speed, some crisp photos!
Weakness:
does not break the rules of speed to colour contrast and saturation if that's what you insist on Developed two rolls of it. I was pleased enough with its combination of speed, tolerable grain size and good sharpness to polarize my film box to Royal Gold 1000 and another 100 film. Use the 1000 in my compact, which suits the cheap optics. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Fuji 800, Kodak New Gold 800, Fuji SHG1600, and more.... |
