Strength:
Nice grain nice latitude beautiful colors sharp as a tack
Weakness:
I don't know if i would commplain about the price, because if your getting paid 6 grand for a wedding, why arent you using the best film and equipment possible. Dont cut corners, use 100UC. I do weddings, portraits and studio work.... up until this year, Kodak has only left me with 160VC which was great in the studio, but just didnt seem do give me any "punch" for portraits and especially outdoor wedding work. So, I heard that Kodak came out with Porta 100UC and I pounced on it. LOVED IT!!!! My blonde brides were beautifully blonde with BLAZING blue eyes, while still having perfectly white dresses. And now, outside, I can have green grass and blue skies. True, this should not be an outdoors film. I do not know why outdoor photographers are using a PORTRA film and complaining about certain colors issues. DO NOT USE A PORTRA FILM TO TAKE LANDSCAPES....well maybe mt. rushmore.... The grain has definately improved over the VC. I can blow up 20x30's with almost no grain at all...and the grain you do see is absolutely beautiful. Nice structure. It is tack sharp and gives a wonderful film latitude to mess up with. I've over and underexposed 3 stops, and it is still just goregeous. I know that people just love their NPS and NPC, but for me, Kodak just has a feel to it that those other films dont really have. Besides, NPS has that "soft" feel to it...why would you use a soft film when you can soften in photoshop... If you need to have a sharp looking photo and you only have NPS, your screwed! Strength:
Good color saturation, low grain, excellent shadow detail.
Weakness:
Grain appears to be slightly worse than Fuji Reala, especially in polarized blue sky images. A versatile and vividly saturated ISO 100 print film from Kodak. Compares nicely with Fuji Reala. Customer Service Not needed. Similar Products Used: Fuji Reala, Superia 100, Kodak High Definition 200, Kodak Gold 100 |

Strength:
Nice grain, tack sharp, wonderful scans, an all around great film to use.
Weakness:
slightly more expensive than fuji ( so charge the extra 30 bucks...la dee da)....the 120 rolls are kind of weird to close when they're finished. Well...I shoot weddings (oh god help me!), and I've used fuji NPH, wasnt happy, thus spent the extra buck to use Kodak portra VC films. Nicer grain than fuji, but like fuji, lacks in color when being used outside. I love to shoot the bride outside but I need that sky and those trees to have a punch to them....without photoshop....I was glad to hear about the 100 UC and was amazed when I got the results back. Even nicer grain and the colors are terrific. Still perfect skin tones, and whites are white...but now the flowers look great, the sky looks blue, the trees are green, and even the lighter shaded eye colors have a sparkle to them. Kodak did a wonderful job. A woot woot for 100 UC. Similar Products Used: Kodak portra vc...fuji nph |
