The Perfection 600 is a good choice for just about any scanning task, making it the Best Buy among flatbeds. ??To begin with, it's got an outstanding software bundle. Visioneer's PaperPort is a first-rate document manager, and Adobe's PhotoDeluxe image editor and PageMill Web authoring tool are both great. TextBridge is included for OCR. On-screen controls provide lots of ways to adjust colors; most times, however, I set the driver to automatic. A poster guides you through setting up the SCSI-based Perfection, and the unit came with a SCSI terminator--a doohickey that's sometimes needed when multiple SCSI devices are attached to a PC. The Epson is big, but it's the only flatbed here that can scan legal-size documents.
