Strength:
Cheap
Weakness:
Poor quality scans with linear defects at 2-3 sites within scan Do not buy this thing. Save yourself a lot of grief, and pay a little more for the HP Photosmart S20. Customer Service Poor. They complained that I wanted to return it, and when I did return it, they didn't credit my account. Still fighting on this one. Similar Products Used: HP Photosmart S20 |

Strength:
Good price, fairly straightforward design.
Weakness:
Buggy software Overall, it was less than half the price of compariable scanners, which probably makes it a good value. It took me about 4 hours to get the thing to work -- reloading the software, going to their web page and downloading dlls, and on and on... Occasionally puts a colored streak across the scan or discolors the entire scan (I suspect that software is probably to blame). Note that its borders shown on the screen are NOT the borders you get, even after you "calibrate." To make matters worse, the real location of the scan area seems to shift on you every time you open the program! This means you have to do a lot of rescans, which wastes time and doesn't do your film any good either. Customer Service Used telephone and email. They only replied to the email request. Strength:
Great price.
Weakness:
Poor documentation. Poorly translated from Tiwanese. The software is also poorly translated and inadequate. Don't waste your money. Customer Service Best way to contact company is by e-mail. Phone conversations end up in shouting matches. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Low Cost Lure - Advertising Hype
Weakness:
Poor documentation, noisey grinding operation, doesnt work with software included (must update from website) Color never the same brightness twice. This scanner can NOT make a decent scan. What good is 2400+dpi if the colors are so far off, and the brightness varies scan to scan (even with so called "calibration". If you buy one, make sure you get generous return policy - *I* didnt. I am going to introduce it to my S&W 44Mag soon. Customer Service Havent found it yet - tried email. Similar Products Used: Canon Flatbed USB with film attachment. |

Strength:
cheap
Weakness:
really cheap I went through 5 of these scanners. The 1st made a grinding noise right away. The second and third worked for about 5-10 scans and then stopped working. The 4th and 5th never worked at all. Needless to say, I no longer own one. Customer Service wanted me to pay for international shipping to and FROM them Similar Products Used: nikon coolscans |

Strength:
It's cheap
Weakness:
It sucks. I managed to get 2 good scans out of about 10 slides. Didn't bother to try negatives. Very slow; not worth the wait. It's garbage. Customer Service Not helpful although they did try. Similar Products Used: Pacific Images 1800 scanner. I returned it, too. |

Strength:
Cheaper than others I found, doesn't take up much desk space
Weakness:
Poor quality scans. Get color/noise streak on 1/3 of scans. Takes several tries to get anything close to a reasonable quality scan. Slide scanning quality is poor; film is worse. If getting a quality scan is what you want, find another solution. If you are scanning images with little contrast, and you don't mind lots of grain, then this might work for you. Otherwise, just assume that the quality is MUCH less if you just scan a photo with a $50 flatbed scanner. Customer Service No phone; web site or email a joke Similar Products Used: Umax Astra flatbed (works great) |

Strength:
USB connection, cheap price, software has a good look and feel
Weakness:
Noicy while importing film/slide holder. Colors are not as they should be even after calibrating and shifting options. 35MM film moved in holder while scanning. CD-rom installation has a error (dll file) on the installation process. The scanner gave to much problems to get a descent final comment. If you have the money save the problems and go for something more expensive. Customer Service My first scanner was returned to the shop where I purchased the scanner. My second scanner was send of to the importer in Holland because of the same failure but without my knowledge send of to the new importer stationed in Belguim. I waited 4 weeks and phoned to the importer in Holland who kindly said my scanner was send to belguim. When I phoned Belguim they were not aware at first "what scanner?" after 5 minutes it was found they where waiting for a new scanner to arrive from England. NO WAY no more waits...
