Strength:

Cheap, small, easily installed.

Weakness:

Software can cause you a headache like you never had before... Manual is crap.

Out of the box it worked within 15 minutes. The next day after starting up my computer the scanner couldn't be found in the system and reinstalling the software did not fix the problem.
After downloading the driver's new version nothing happened. "USB for Windows not initialized"; "there seems no scanner to be connected"... After several emails to and from the customer helpdesk (they suggested solutions which I had already tried, without any results), I turned to a computer specialist who finally found the problem. The scanner's driver (geneusb.sys) was replaced by a Windows driver (usbscan.sys). This didn't work with the scanner and so a whole week full of frustration was wasted. Now it works fine, be it that only one programm of the softwarebundle functions without locking the system when I try to print a scanned picture... Using PageManager for transferring the scan to another application causes horizontal stripes in the print. They say that this is due to misalignment of my newly bought (the old one couldn't reproduce the quality of the scans)printer's head, but after a dozen or so realignments? Directly scanning from Adobe or Kodak Imaging works fine, so I suspect another quirk in the softwarebundle that comes with the scanner. All in all a usefull scanner, with fine results if you have a printer that can give good 8x12 prints. Don't rely on the software that comes with it, better use Adobe or a similar good product. If you can afford to spend more money, then buy a Minolta or a Nikon filmscanner. The Pacific Image is a nice option for tight budgets.

Customer Service

Not really helpfull. They wanted to be, but their suggestions didn't help.
