ADVANTIX Film Drive FD 300
Strength:
Works as advertised.
Weakness:
None yet. First highest resolution scan perfect. Extraordinarily detailed. Makes an expensive digital camera unnecessary. Customer Service Kodak talked me through an installation problem. Similar Products Used: Epson 1200 Photo |

ADVANTIX Film Drive FD 300
Strength:
Works well for casual use. Easy to set up and run.
Weakness:
Little control on scan quality, overheats and doesn't provide clean scans all the time. About 30% of scans have white pixels or off-color pixels mixed in. Have to re-scan when this happens. For occasional use it is a decent product at a good price, going to get the Canon Canoscan. Similar Products Used: None |

ADVANTIX Film Drive FD 300
Strength:
I like the ease of loading, the quality of the scans and the dedicated aps feature. It does an amazingly good job for little money and I am pleased with the performance.
Weakness:
I have heard of overheating problems but have not experienced any of those problems. I seem to have overcome the software problem by downloading the update. I had to call Kodak service when I messed up and shut down before rewinding the film but it was painless. I like this scanner a lot for it's purpose and would certainly recommend it. The software is not as good as Adobe Photoshop 5 but in my opinion, none are as good as Photoshop. Customer Service Truly excellent experience. Talked me through the problem by phone. ADVANTIX Film Drive FD 300
Strength:
Inexpensive but works OK with the downloadable Quickscan software
Weakness:
Overheats efter 15-20 scanned pictures. The original software poor - almost unusable. Decent APS-only scanner - the Quickscan software is a must. Customer Service Had it replaced due to overheating problem, but the new unit was just as bad in this respect. Similar Products Used: Minolta Scan Dual |

Strength:
Simple to install
Weakness:
Slow. It takes a long time to scan a full roll of film (24exp). It could be faster. Don't know if it could be quieter with all the mechanical things going on. Customer Service So far, no problems. (I've had it about 6 months or more. Similar Products Used: I have a Mikrotec (sp?) for 35mm film. It is a three pass scanner for color so no comparison. |

Strength:
Easy to use.
Weakness:
It overheats too much. Not good for batch jobs. It took Kodak a year to come up with software that scanned the whole roll in one batch. Slow. After a year, it broke down. I belive this is a scanner for leisure. If you scan more than 300 photos a month, as I did, It will not fulfill your needs. It is a cumbersome and faulty machine. Noisy. Better off buying for $100 de Minolta scanners. Customer Service Good, they replace dthe faulty version within the warranty period, but this one also failed Similar Products Used: Minolta Dimage Dual Scan |

Strength:
High resolution scans, perfect for making posters. Quality of scans is better than flatbed scanner
Weakness:
Software doesn't work under W2K. QuickScan software is not working properly under Windows ME and sometimes gives problems with WIN98 Good product but software should have been better Customer Service Very hard to reach Similar Products Used: HP 6300c flatbed scanner |
